Somebody please explain the differences?
Power wave sails are freestyle sails yes?
Compact wave sails are light weight sails yes?

But power wise?
Power wave sails are suppose to pull you on the plane earlier
But do they?

i.e
Naish Boxer vs Naish Force
Severne Swat vs Severne Gator

Its way more complex than that.

I prefer to think of how the sails behave while you are riding a wave, sails like the S1 and boxer go neutral more quickly which can be good with twitchy little waveboards. Sails like the Blade and Gator provide a more constant source of power which is great for really driving through the bottom turns.....maybe...

...or I have got no idea.

I'm thinking more for freestyle uses,
as i just love a light weight rig,
which is the reason why I'm considering going for the boxer,
but will i lose if anything from buying these 'compact sail'

have always loved gaastra manics for freestyle they a compact wavesail. Had a poison which is a power wavesail which I always found hard to freestyle.

The new Vandal Riot is very similar to the Boxer I have borrowed that a few times and it rocks. Neutrals out really fast which takes getting used to to keen power through spinning moves but lets you throw stuff way more powered up without losing control which is cool.

I would say for anything 5.3 or down go for a top end/compact wave sail. For groveling or big sails go for a power wave like the poison.

I'll use you examples..

Power Wave.. Naish Boxer and Force, Severne Blade, Gator.

Compact Wave? Naish session, Severne S-1.

Power Wave sails are more grunty usually have a fuller foil and power is down low in the sail around boomish level and spread evenly between your hands, sometimes feeling like it's going to pull you over the front when powering up.

Compact Wave sails (good for freestyle) are usually flatter, most run shorter mast lengths so feel a bit softer and the power is more in the back hand and higher up in the sail..

The Boxer is kind of a compact power wave sail and the Swat is more of a lightweight wave sail..

Get some Swats for freestyle, you'll be stoked

Thanks alot lanky, i may end up buying a 5.3 and 4.7 Gaastra Manic.

You will not be disappointed with the manics, if you do get some buy HD it's worth the extra money. My 2009 5.3 has been crashed landed on and burried in the sand more times than I can remember and it still hasn't broken. Apparently the new 2010 manics have been made to be even more similar to the IQ, Boxer and the Riot style sails so should make it even better for freestyle.
