A proposal to initiate racing from the Novara boat ramp.

The idea is that such racing be as inclusive and informal as possible
Their willl be no club,no fees,no special marks,no rescue boats and no responsibility accepted for safety,or indeed anything.

The first race will start at 2.30 pm Sunday 20th April 2014. Briefing at 2.15 pm.

Start. the plastic pipe closest to the rigging area.
to end of channel markers to starboard.
to wooden post inshore ( approx 90 degrees from first leg ) to starboard
back to end channel markers to port
to start marker to starboard
to the closest rock garden marker (the plastic 100 x 50 downpipe) to port
to start mark to starboard
to beach.
Thats it. About 30 minutes.
Almost all of the course is in very shallow water. centre boards will hit the bottom on some legs.
Every body is welcome.Any kiter who can get upwind is welcome. SUPs are welcome. If the wind is very light you will win.
If there are enough starters a handicap system will be devised.
If we get strong winds slalom racing will be organized.
The title of the series will be"The Intergalactic and local waters championship of 2014"
If enough people turn up the event will be fine tuned .
If nobody turns up I will declare myself the inaugural champion and award myself a perpetual trophy.

Isn't that how you won the Winter Series of 1940something?

Good onya Barry,

Great to see your taking the initiative to get a few wind junkies together for a no stress, nothing to serious...sailing.

One thing you missed out on at the end of the racing...bring yer own brewskis for the race debriefing.

As luck may have it, prescribed Sunday Service ends at 3 - 4am, so after your egg hunt in the morning you are free to chant/yodel the "Vespers of Love" on your way around the coarse

How would a beginner intermediate go with something like this? I can only gybe 10% of the time in stronger winds (slow step gybes are OK). Have never sailed elsewhere except for Melville, Pelican Point and Safety Bay occasionally.

Is there a map of the course?

Would there be others of same (lack of) skills interested?

A bit of clarification.
Dusta. A 28 cm fin should be fine . If its not, get off and walk where necessary.
Grumpy Smurf. This course is designed for you .Apart from the top marks at the channel all turns are in about knee deep water.
The most suitable boards for this will be more than 3m long and will have centreboards.
I will be sailing a very disreputable mistral malibu that is about 25 years old.
My sails are about 2011.
It is expected that more experienced windsurfers will offer assistance where it is appropriate.
With regard to " brewskis" apre race. Total sobriety apre race will be tolerated but is not to be encouraged.
So dig up the old Wallies, come to Novara and enjoy
