Afternoon all! Requesting some advice please on my next board.
Firstly some background, at the moment I sail a 141 starboard carve. My goto sail is a 6.7 NP Hellcat and I use this in anything up to 25kts. After this is gets a bit hard to hang onto and I use my only other sail, a NP Zone 5.7. The board gets a little flighty in the stronger wind so I am looking for something a bit smaller. I am around 86kg on a good day and have been in this awesome sport for just over 12 months, this is the kit I have learnt on. I can plane comfortably hooked in and in the straps, stay upwind no problem and can gybe in lighter winds and am working on my carve gybes.
I sail the Mandurah estuary during summer and do a stint at Rotto, winter I am based in Broome in winter when I sail less but get out occasionally in the easterly winds and the occasional seabreeze. I want to learn to wavesail......
From some research I have come to the conclusion that my next board should be a freeware around 100kg? The are a bit hard to find and I am reluctant to spend too much money as I am still fairly regularly stowing in the nose of the 141 (which has had more nose jobs than Sam Newman by the way).
How would a wave board, like a starboard nuevo at 101L go on the flat water in the stronger winds with my sails and then learn to wave sail on? I have a surfing background so feel I would pick it up fairly quickly.
I must say I love how much the windsurfing crew help each other with advice, tips etc and welcome newbies into the sport..... miles different than the attitude in the surf.

Probably your best option would be a starboard Kode, they are fast and loose, you can put in thrusters and make them surfy too. Use a bigger single fin on flat water.

The older ones were single fins but still loosen up when you put a smaller more swept back fin in.

Probably get yourself a 5.2m or even a 5m sail for when its gets windier.

Theres also some bigger Goya quads, keep a look out the older ones can be picked up cheap now and again.
Just try and get out as much as you can.

Thanks for the reply Madge. I will keep and eye out for a Kode. The reason I ask about the NuEvo is because there is one for sale at a reasonable price in my area.

What size fin do you use with that 6.7 Hellishcat and the 141L ? You could try a smaller fin.

At 86kg, since you can get into the straps, it is also likely that you can waterstart. Thus the 141+6.7 is a big board for that sail -> you could easily use a 120L in the same conditions - the board will be smaller to match your 5.7m

I'd say Nuevo too loose for first time wavesailor.
With the surf background it mayyy be OK but I still would go with conventional wisdom of a freewave to get used to getting out thru waves etc so you are onto it.

Thats why they are in demand......

Thanks Matt. It's a 43cm delta weed fin. I will put a smaller fin in and see if it's a bit easier to handle next time the wind gets up.

Thanks Mark. Yep they seem pretty hard to find. I was hoping the wave board might get me through. Are they really that much harder to sail? I would do a bit of bump
and jump with it to get the feel of it before heading into the ocean. I learned my lesson breaking most of the battons on the hellcat in the waves.

I have a cheap Carve 94 which isnt a wave board (obviously) but a smaller cheap option and would be fast with the Hellcat and gybes nice. Inboard straps pos too.

out of interest can this go in small waves?

That fin might be hard work.
Try asking someone else at your beach if you could borrow a fin - say 35cm and less raked.

The new evo boards are great but you really have to bear off to get them to release compared to the Kodes. Also unless your heading into proper peeling waves they aren't that good. The codes are far more versatile. Theres also a few other boards out there that might suit your needs.

Any thoughts on an Exocet cross 117 litre. If it's not too much different to my 141 carve, I may as well just keep sailing what I have.
Anyone had experience with the Exocet?
