I have a 2008 VW transporter 4motion. It is the same as a multivan but tradie style without the nice interior. I have a feeling my next van will be a mulitvan, however the next one will be 2wd not 4motion. The T6 multivan 4motion is over $90K!!!

Storage in the VW will blow you away and the ride is nice too (lots of power!). You can can fit so much more gear inside than a delica. Go have a chat with Tom Radis about VWs next time you see him at the beach.

Thx Alex. Is your a SWB or LWB? I did chat to Radis and he suggest a LWB but that will add another $20k to the price...

$20,000 for an extra 400mm section of sheet metal!

Same number of moving parts in a VW Polo and it's $20,490 drive away!

I've had two VW 4 motion SWB transporters now. The white one I had for 8 years, just got the blue one. They've been great cars. Reliable, plenty of power, fuel efficient, heaps of space. Ok on sand but I don't think they would handle serious 4WD'ing with deep tracks or steep approach angles etc. Both were brand new at 44K - don't know what happened to inflation! They have the same body and engine etc as the multivan so not sure why you would get the multivan unless you wanted heaps of seats, leather etc.

mine is LWB. a 9'5 SUP fit is the back straight and behind the seat!
I have done an aftermarket ECU flash for extra grunt, have a performance diff controller on the rear diff that makes it 50:50 drive when the front wheels spin rather than 80:20 (much better on sand) and bigger rims and tires for extra ground clearance.
Driving in sand is quite good mostly but takes some skill. I've taken mine plenty of places people didn't think it would get. The lack of a lowrange gear is their biggest downfall after lack of clearance.

Hey Hooksey, You can import the later model Delica D5's I picked up mine 18 months ago and bloody love it., 2.3L Turbo diesel has low range 4WD and diff lock. Unfortunately the local dealer who was part of the Eagers group here in Brissy are no longer doing Japanese imports but pretty sure there is a mob in Sydney that do. Cheers, Tim

Is there a Long Wheelbase version of that newer Delica? Or a van version?

Mitsubishi still thinks there is life in the Delicia model. Supposedly this is the 2018 version. Maybe the Aussie importer could import a few.

^^^ that looks about 10mm longer than a Commodore wagon

Delica LWB was always a good option, shame everything is shorter now and/or a bit less 4WD capable.

Thus my Troopie suggestion
