Hi all,

My current kit is:
Bic Techno 2003 125L 272x64cm
Gaastra Manic 2005 5.3M on 55% 400 mast
Maui Pursuit 2006 6M on 30% 430 mast
Severne Element 2008 7.5M on 50% 460 mast

I am probably just in the intermediate catgory - I can water start, tack, sometimes jybe and occassioanl pop in the air. I sail mostly at Pelican Point in WA (river sailing).

Now the good news is that the Chief Financial Officer (aka wife) has given approval for a new board.

So I'd like to hear your thoughts - should I replace the Bic Techno with maybe a Futura (111/122?) and really nail all my basics or keep it and get something a bit smaller for fun when it picks up?

I wouldn't replace the bic, but keep it for the light wind days. Maybe think about something below 100 litres for the moderate to high wind days. Sometime down the track, when more funds are made available to you, you could add an 80 litre to the stable, then you'd have an 80, 100 and your 125.

Thanks Shear Tip - I'm leaning towards 101 Futura at this stage.

100 litres is perfect, after you get the hang of it you'll probably only pull the Bic out when it's less than 13 knots, to practice freestyle on

Don't make the mistake of thinking that a 100 litre board can't be uphauled -- it can, quite easily!

Your sailing will improve out of sight with a board around this volume.
