I've made up a quick digital magazine with some on my favourite photo's taken over the summer. It's a work in progress and I would like to get some others to add to it, I'd like some other photo's and maybe some stories or articles to add some extra flavour. If you'd like to get involved please get in touch, Someone must have some good yarns from this season.

...Looking back it was a great summer , Thanks to all that got in front of my lens...I had over 10000 images to look through....There's a lot more that I'll add later.

Check it out at this link...Sadly it's flash enabled so it won't work on the iPad/phone, I'll work on a new version to see if this can be fixed.

who's that gumby on the front [}:)]

awesome little time capsule, only comment so far, is that the photos that are rotated 90deg are kinda hard to view haha, is there a way to rotate the magazine? oh and let the hipsters keep their instagram filters, they have no place in windsurfing, we don't need filters to look fulleh sik eh

Thanks for the feedback swoosh, I agree about the larger images in a digital format but there is an option to bring this to life as a real magazine if there is some interest. Talking with the printer on a limited run it would set me back $15-$20 per mag depending on quality of print stock and total amount ordered (starting at 20 issues, The more the cheaper). I just want to get some more content so it's more then just a picture book. Not looking to make money but I thought some of the featured sailors might like to get a copy...Maybe a brand could sponsor it to bring the cost down or make it free

Cheers....And keep the feedback coming please.

Looks good. More variety would be good also the addition of something to read. Good start though.

An annual mag that nsw sailors could contribute articles and photos would be awesome, just a little reminder of the season and sessions gone down.

I've got to get a water camera, in the last year I have seem some crazy sailing at some serious waves whilst sitting in the channel. Then again maybe they are best remembered over a beer in the pub.

You can get it to work on the iPad/phone, you just need to run it through a flash browser like "photon". It would have been nice to have it downloadable so you could run it in iBook or similar.

Still workin on it.....

I'm in QLD but would be interested in an annual Mag like this to reflect the season. It would be a lot of work and a full time job for multiple people if it were a regular magazine. even if it was issued every 6 months would be good.

Get a beginner to contribute a segment in how to start windsurfing from scratch, and their progress through to the end of the season would be a good read for newbies like myself.

The best session of the season for me was watching Duncan and George trying to out do each other at a very heavy point down south.
35 knot southerly with 6-8 ft swell running and Geoarge makes the call on where to sail. I rock up feeling pretty unsure about the whole thing but Duncan is in the carpark ready to go. George then shows up frothing like a grom, telling us how sick it's going to be. His enthusiasim is infectious, so we rig like men possesed and we're out there in no time.
George throws caution to the wind straight away. He smacks the lip, gets caught in the foam and goes over the falls. Straight up on the rock shelf!! Ha ha.
He bounces around in amongst the rocks, gets washed into the channel by the next set and he's ready charge again. ......except his boom has buckled on the waveriding side. So he floats downwind, de-rigging in the water swapping the boom around so he'll be sweet for waveriding again.
Sailing in 35 knots with a f@cked boom is far from ideal yet George must have sailed 1km out to sea with this badly bent boom to make it back to the break.

Meanwhile, Duncan and i are getting dialled into the place. Smoothest waves i've ever riden but breaking meters from the rocks. I'm embarrasing myself out on the shoulder but Duncan is pushing it pretty hard. He drops into a solid mast high wave, turns hard of the bottom followed by a mid face carve as the wave hits the shelf and the bottom drops out of it. I reckon the nose of his board was at least a couple of centermeters under the water before it surfaced again allowing him to escape the solid lip following right behind. He disappeared in the spray for a few seconds before laying down another bottom turn then off down the line. Lucky escape.
By this stage George has made it back to us and gets some very solid rides. He is taking off way deeeep and soon pushes it too far, getting smashed by a set and washing up onto the shelf again. This time there's no coming back. Pretty much all his gear is pulverised onto the rocks. Lucky for Duncan though, because at least George is there to grab Duncans gear as he goes up onto the rocks two waves later after another one of those mid face carves beneath this heaving death slab.

Me. i watch the whole show, hooting at the sick rides then laughing at my mates misfortune. As the last man standing, I sail back down wind to get the ute so i can give the wounded warriors a lift back to their vehicles.
Smiles all around. What a day!!
Moral of the story : If you get the call from George you've gotta go!

Hi Jason,

My wife and I taken a fair few windsurfing photos over the last summer. All have been of flat water sailing, mainly at Kyeemagh Botany Bay and also some at Canton Beach.

I'd be happy to share these photos with you via Flickr, Google Drive or whatever you like for you to check out. I don't mind contributing a bit of a spiel for these spots either.

I've previously contributed to an online windsurfing magazine, Oz Windsurf and quite enjoyed the process.

Love your work Jase! I'm sure everyone has a great appreciation when something like this gets done, purely out of a love of windsurfing, max respect.

The only thing I would say, is as per swoosh's comment the 90deg photos are hard to view...but it would be a different story printed of course. You'd lose a lot of that perspective if you had to crop/shrink them to fit horizontally which would be a shame.

Gooey sums up the day pretty well.
Except for the part about him being on the shoulder, but you all knew that.

Yeah the news paper took some shots, and they were good but I don't think they came close to summing up what it was like bogging back out in the channel. I have never seen a photo or video that matches the memory of looking into 6 foot spitting barrels on a heaving ledge 5 feet from the dry rocks while those two blokes seriously pushed the limits!

The best bit was driving home with 38 (I counted) sea urchins in my clutch foot. I didn't even feel them the adrenalin was still flowing!

Dunk - just get Puffin Web Browser - allows you to view all the stuff you shouldn't on the iPad

Have tried it for Jason's mag and it works fine apart from not letting me go full screen

Nice work Jason

Moby, that would be great....This is what I would like, If anyone interested could snap some shots of their local and write a bit of a blurb or story it would make for some light reading and add a bit more life to the mag, Even a holiday to an exotic place could feature. Moby let me know your Flickr account and I'll have a look at them, I also have an option on the site to allocated anyone pages and you can edit them yourself if your interested. The site is easy to use and has all you need, just upload the photos write som txt and arrange on a page...too easy.

I'm liking the vibe...lets make this happen

cheers mike, worked a treat.
what size did you get, im certain you are going to enjoy that board.

yeah those photos are great, a bit of variaty and input from around the place would make it a sick mag to put on the coffee table or bottom draw of the bedside table.

You can't sail this spot if there are ANY surfers out. As such it is a no go on weekends and only on the wildest of days can you get it. Also this is what happens when you fall off.

When you get it right it is just awesome and that day is one of the most memorable of all with both Duncan and Brett going hard, it was awesome just sailing out next to a spitting barrell.
