Hi All,

I am off to New Cal in September/October with my wife & have an Air Calin ticket both ways (following advice on here & from Sean), but have just noticed that the flight over is operated by Qantas (I mistakenly thought I was booking only Air Calin flights as I booked on their website)

After calling Air Calin & Qantas, what I am told (by Qantas) is that Qantas will only honour the baggage limit printed on the ticket which is 23 KG & not the free sports baggage, (Air Calin staff are not helpful at all) has any one else been in the same situation & if so what happened at the check in counter (I was going to try & argue it on).

Or should I just pre purchase an extra 23 KG of baggage as my wife suggests to avoid a confrontation?

On a different note, as the fins are the heaviest/most compact, has any one successfully taken them in cabin baggage? My instinct is not to try it as I don't want to risk loosing 4 or 5 fins to save 75 bucks.

Thanks in advance

oooh that sucks....

do I have your dates ? If no please send them to me via pm, I'll check if your flight is during our holiday. If that's the case you'll be screw.... cause all the flights are full during our public holiday.

if not, you could get away with it in a haff full flight.

I'm going to new Caledonia in November for 3 weeks but don't have any gear. Seanhogan, could you find some for me please? (107L, 7.8m and 125L 8.5m). I do have the fins though Considering that everyone over there is now foiling, that should be easy to find.Cheers.

There's no way they are going to let you carry fins as cabin luggage. You can't even carry tweezers.
0% chance.

Book the extra 23kg just to be sure your gear gets there with you.

We don't accept French refugees from Oz over here, especially those that come empty handed !!

Or else come over, wait until day one of the Airwaves PWA (where you will be humiliated by the pros....) for Ventalon to dislocate any part of his body, and then grab his gear !!!

Best plan ever and I'm already training on his gear on top of that. I can't believe I haven't thought about it before

Hey guys, what do you think the situation for Qantas baggage is in January. I am going to Noumea and am hoping to hit some good waves.

Do you have any idea if Noumea tours such as this one https://www.newcaledoniatravel.com.au/things-to-do/noumea-city-tours are worth doing? I usually explore destinations by myself and without any guides, but the husband and I are trying to see as much a s possible in the shortest amount of time. Do you think it'a a good idea? I am open for suggestions.
