Has anyone tried tightening the NP MXT base. If so how did you do this? There seems to be alot of play where the red washer is visible. The hex bolt inside the base doesn't seem to have a means of tightening. The other side of the hex bolt might require a special tool possibly.

They only cost $100 .. just buy a new one to minimies risk to your safety, save a few hours of your life, minimise risk to damaged gear, minimise risk to lost gear ....

I just buy a new one every season, but maybe you could buy a new one every second season.

I have driven myself nuts trying! I have two and replaced the tendons on both. They are are perfectly good but like yours one has some wobble. I have tried to concoct a tool to fit the two pins in the head of the faster but never got even a quarter of a turn out of it. The fastner has several names - a pig nose or a snake eye or a tamper proof security faster. However I can not find anyone who sells a "spanner" with pins at 12mm centres to fit this one (most only go up to about 6MM). So... I keep the wobbly one as a back up and use the tight one regularly .

Thanks Peter, looks like tightening the joint might not be an option. Jake, I've owned two sets for about 10 years without any breakage, so quite reliable I would say. I tend to replace the tendons every two years. I mainly sail flat water estuaries so feel the risk reward is adequate. Cheers

When they have tightened the nut initially they have flared the stud part locking the nut in place.

If you do manage to tighten, unless you also flare or center punch it it will likely revert to original tension after a period of time.

From what I've seen of the head there's plenty of meat there and once they get a bit of a wobble they don't seem to get much worst.

Just keep an eye on the tendon same as any other base.

I was about to get a new one, but what you say makes sense. Besides, by not buying another one, I'm reducing my carbon footprint and might just be saving our planet!!

I also have 2 of these and just replace the tendon. They are wobbly but never had a failure because of it and I have been using them for about 5 years.
