Autumn is weeks away. 4 or 5 months of glassy flat hell. Get one in while you can.

I know how you feel. I got down to the bay late in the arvo yesterday, it was very sqaully and wind strength going up and down like a yo yo. It was very tempting to jump back in the van, but then I thought of autumn.

In the end the session was much like I expected, but it was still great to get some runs in and get wet. Once you are on the water, its all justified.

Sadly have to agree with you. Then again... WA means almost 6 months of no sailing at all.

There's a strong race scene in nsw have you thought about that. Gives you a reason and purpose to go out either to train or race and conditions a less important particular for raceboards.

The last few sails I've had I've spent just chasing the wind..rig up ..not enough.. rig another ..winds died so still not enough etc etc.
I'm very motivated to try and put the new tips I've got from the Guy Cribb clinic into practise but it's hard to get decent conditions.Grr looks like it's good today but I can't go.
Certainly nicer with a good sunny day and a consistent 20 -25kt wind..

One way to get motivated and make windsurfing a bit more social is to get into the GPS teams thing. It's not for everyone though. If you are more into freestyle perhaps a way to get more motivated is to have a GoPro and someone on shore with a good camera to take video of you doing moves.

You will come off heaps and then you can create a crash compilation video and stick in utube. It will get heaps of views and you might make a dollar off it if you get a hundred thousand views or something like that and the video is monetarised.

In the end though, once up on the plane I just enjoy windsurfing in itself. It's such fun to be blasting along.

I've been feeling like absolute crap this weekend. My diabetes has sapped all my energy and strength But I still dragged my sorry butt out for sail on saturday and it was well worth it. today I wasn't feeling much better but I went out for a sail anyway. The wind died while I was driving out so I took a 7 metre and a fat slalom board. In the time it took to carry my board to the water it cranked back in at 25 to 30. I changed to my 50 cm slalom board and 5.6 race sail. Still to much sail area lol it's bloody cranking out there. Time to break out the 5.3 . It's a race sail also but flatter and softer than the 5.6. So after dragging myself out there when All I wanted to do was sleep and changing sails 3 times, I was rewarded with an awesome afternoon of rough water blasting, maxed out with a 5.3 race sail and 50 cm high wind slalom. It was bloody epic I loved it.

I'd giveup and get the newspaper delivered so you don't have to go out and you can sit in an armchair all day. I'd just not worth the effort to be alive. Those silly young wippersnippers out there all day in the sun and wind, shame on them......

I gotta say I lost my motivation when I saw the state of the water in the bay near my place. After a few days of rain and storms it looked putrid! Thats my excuse anyway.

I got a chronic upper back problem 8 years ago which made me a bit of a vege for years . I never thought I'd be able to sailboard again( or cycle / kayak /sit /watch TV etc)..I lost 7 years of sailing..You should have heard the whoop when I first got out..Pity I've forgotten those days now.. Although I do need to sail regularly now to keep my body/neck capable .. It can be a good way to justify sailing if others aren't keen on me going..
So as they say .. make the most of it you never know what's around the corner..Me falling in a heap surprised my friends.. some in the bushwalking club used to call me 'superwoman" in the old days ..

As a general rule I get out when I can, running a business added with being a new parent means time on the water is a rare commodity. I do manage combat sessions, quick 30-40 min sessions before I get home occasionally but it takes motivation and preparation to do it. I also make the most of that session and try to do at least one new thing. Last week i tried a forward, well it started as a forward and ended as a side-ward. People will tell you not to let go of you're gear when your rotating and the stiches in the side of my head can vouch for that! Will I try it again, for sure.

Imagine if you were surfing, more excuses:
Tide, Rip, crowd, placement, paddling (endless duck dives), chop, sand bar...

At least if the wind is there, you rig, you go, you're happy.
And forget about thinking to hard to have the extension at 17 or 18 cm,
just rig and go.

so true. Best thing I've done this season was squeeze a sail in during lunch! But I was in combat mode, didn't mess about. Straight down to the river, rigged up in what felt like 5 minutes, 8x 2km runs. Pack up, wash off back to work.
