So the latest board purchase put me over the edge for the current storage situation so the trailer is required.
Design requirements had to be,
fit 3 boards plus stuff.
finished trailer height to be lower than a small car profile for windage.
easily converted back to a box trailer for the missus on those boring weekends.
1. Start with a gal 7x4 box trailer with pre fab outside frame

2.make frame

3. Test fit the gear.

4. Insulate and colourbond sheet.


5. Do the little quirky bits for fins and stuff.

There we have it fitted with a solar vent.
With the removal of 8 tek screws the entire frame lifts off leaving a 7x4 box trailer ready for the missus.
All up about $2400 with all new gear, plus about 35 hours labour and 53 hours thinking about how the bloody hell I was going to do it.

As the owner of 4 trailers I felt qualified your judge your trailer a failure. There doesnt appear to be any room for a fourth board ,or more wishbones or many more sails. or even a BIG esky for the long trips. shame ,shame , shame

Yep did it all but the trailer and the four drop in side panels then added the rest of the frame work from there, used 3 lengths of 16mm gal square tube not sure on price for that yet but the colourbond was about $320 then rubber, screws rivots etc. I reckon $650-$700 tops to add the frame to the base trailer.
Insulation is the air cell type we use to insulate roofs on houses about $60. I think the cooler the boards the better as it will sit in the sun a lot of the time and inslation makes a huge difference plus I added a solar vent ($62ebay) to help circulate air throughout.
More booms and sails can easily sit on the tray, and for extra boards the missus sais I will just have to get rid of one if I want anymore,(fair call).
Then again the whole thing could be raised another 200mm to allow for another board rack.
Sailpilot when you get to making yours give me a yell as there is couple of little things I would change if I did it again, nothing major but its in hyendsight as always

a few extras you may / may not want to add on:

1. Sitckers from every board/sail mfctr.
2. racks on the top for more mates gear, when the tray is full
3. hatch/door to the front compartment for bits n pieces and smelly wetsuits.
4. the latest pirelli calander [}:)]

Stickers to acquire, yep for sure. I have a 280x380 boat hatch/door on order for the front left side for access to board bags,etc.
Convert back to a trailer unload gear, unscrew 8 screws, lift off. Although I don't really plan to do this to often, but it is simple enough for 2. You could put lifting lugs on top and winch the lot off still loaded
The trailer was 1350 plus extra 300 for drop in side panels which includes swinging door, which saved me a lot of time not having to make it.
The side panels usually come with mesh but I asked them to leave that off.
Also plan to install rollout draws on the tray at a later stage but for now I am sticking with plastic tubs for extension/bases etc. As after a new board and now this the budget is shot

Mine, I left blank, looks very simular to your design, cept I had the box section extended at front like your nose cone. Also lifts off when I want it as a trailer.
Your internal racks gave me some idea's to improve mine

Yep I had thought of the 'advertising' factor with stickers but thought it might actually be a deterent to the young mislead folk who wouldn't be interested in the outdated 80's sport for mid life crisis elderley gentlemen.

Cool trailer, the only down side is if you want to tow a boat, camper trailer, jet ski etc

Nice, what size trailer did you start with? How many boards are you packing?
I ended up with a height of 1440mm as the cars I am looking at for next year are about 1460mm and I wanted the trailer under the wind shadow.
I hunted through all the old trailer threads getting ideas for mine and think that if these ideas can help anyone else thats great, I know it racked my brain
