My optician suggested I give monovision a go, as on top of my short sightedness I am also losing my ability to focus close e.g. read.
So currently I have a lens in my right eye that corrects my short sightedness perfectly and in my left eye the correction is not 100% but I can read with that eye. Freaky! Apparently my brain is supposed to get used to this and I have the benefit of seeing both far and near.
Now, I've read up on the internet and apparently it is illegal for Airline Pilots to use monovision as it alters your depth perception. Has anybody got any experience with this in regards to windsurfing? I am a bit worried it might make things a bit unpredictable as it did when I lost a contact lens windsurfing, I kept hitting the bumps and getting my timing wrong.

Did your optician offer you air optix multifocal contact lenses? If not ask for them or pm and I'll let you know who to go and see to get them, a much better, safer (particularly for night driving) and longer term option.

Confused, K dog how long did it take you to adapt to the multifocal lens. My optician did mention this, but said that most people couldn't cope with it.

I have tried the monovision thing all weekend and have given up. I've noticed that I don't really need to read that much and my arms are still long enough... Was thinking might go the reading glasses over lenses option...

Hi, your optom has given you slightly old school info. Not many multifocal have worked in the past but the air optix multifocal is a massive step forward. Will take a couple of days to adjust but much safer than monovision.

Sorry to confuse with my post -I use that brand in the water - very comfortable and no issues - but my prescript is not multi. Sounds like confused has the answers.
