I want to buy a freestyle board in the next few months.

I'm looking at a 2009 JP Freestyle 107 and wondering whether it is worth it. I'm 80kg.

Are the modern boards much better in terms of early planing and pop?

Below is based around the approx. 100 litre JP carbon (pro edition) versions. I've either had, tried or still have them

2008 was great at the time, very fast, early planing board but not as slidey / freestyle friendly as later models (longer than later models)

2009 was the start of the rounder and chunkier but not particularly fast or early planing. was a more freestyle friendly shape

2010, 2011 like above but with concaved deck where feet go which removed volume from tail and therefore not much pop for freestyle, not a particularly early planer nor fast, but very user friendly

2012 the start of the modern shape (shorter and more volume at the rear under feet for good pop. It was a good model that planes a tad earlier and faster than 2009-20011. I believe they haven't really changed that much since, just + or - a couple of cm here and there. A really good mix between the 2008 - 2011 years. It takes a little getting used to because it sits on top of the water and is not as direct feeling as prior shapes (feels slippery or skatey)

The 90 litre versions can be quite a different shape to 100l (not just a scaled down version) but I think 110L is closer shape to 100L

We've still got a 2010, 2012, 2013 100L and a 2014 90L

You may find a more modern shape 100L is as good as 110L for an 80KG sailor, though it's hard trying to find a freestyle board period

Based on that, I should probably hold off for now and buy a more modern freestyle board. I want maximum pop and slidiness.

I loved my 2010 tabou twister twin fin. After riding it I couldn't make a JP freestyle board of the same era pop.
Wish i never got rid of it!!!!
