Hi everyone!

I'm picking up a Maui sails legend this weekend bur need a new mast to go with it, the place I'm getting it from doesn't sell the Maui sails masts so I wondered has anyone tried rigging this sail on say a powerex or gaastra mast?

Any other suggestions or recommendations would be useful

Should work OK on a Gaastra mast depending on year and bend characteristics.
Same designer did Gaastra from 99/00 (I think) onwards and now does Maui Sails.
The race sails worked fine with Gaastra carbon masts.
Check their forum and ask Barry Spanier the question, he will help.
Hope this helps.

Give sails & windsurfing centre a call, they should either have or be able to get a MauiSails mast.
Otherwise the Naish skinnies are probably the closest match.
Powerex isn't a good match with MauiSails... neither is Ezzy!!!

You're probably right mclovin', it could feel good on various masts, but I think you'd be blown away at the feel of the sail if you rigged it on a MauiSails mast (or something close in characteristics)
Ezzy probably isn't the worst mast to rig it on, but MauiSails masts are very stiff in the top section and I would think Ezzy would be classed as more of a flex top mast... could be wrong, but definitely not a stiff top.
I'll lend you one of my masts to try out the difference some time, it would be interesting to see just how different you find the sail.

Ezzy masts are a little stiffer in the top than Powerex

Mate of mine tried the Ezzy in his Naish Force (Naish Firestick is a stiff top mast) and it improved the top end compared to his Powerex

Hi All,

I just rigged that sail on a gaastra skinny and it rigs well, i had a look at the rigging guide on the maui sails site and compared it to what i ended up with and the twist and everything looks good, i went down to quinns today but not enough wind to get out on the water, fingers crossed for tomorrow so ill let you all know how it feels on the water wind forbidding!
