Hey guys,

Doing a shoutout to look for some more guys who want to come and race in a sweeeeet teams racing event in Mauritius in August.

The Mauritius Freeride Paradise Challenge
www.mauritiusfreeride.com/

The event is on 8-14th August and it's a multi-format slalom event. Basically we all just stay at this pimping resort right on the beach and everyday they drive us to one of Mauritius' amazing beaches and we do some kind of slalom race (downwind, marathon, speed, figure-8) - each day a different format, then we come home to the resort and eat like kings at the buffet.

It's a totally "fun" event and there's a big range of sailor levels competing. Usually we'll have some top PWA guys (mostly French) come and some from neighbouring islands and South Africa.

The event requires teams of 5 and so far we have 3 from Australia. Myself, Luke Baillie and Julien Ventalon. Trying to get 2 more!! I guess economically it's cheaper/easier to come from the West Coast but we aren't fussed.

If you want a 1.5 week holiday in winter to a PARADISE island where it's usually windy every single day then please get in touch with me!! We're not fussed on the level of sailing... everyone from beginner to pro competes... it's a FUN event and it's more about sailing in paradise than being serious about the competition.

Last year's event looks like this:

It's at Preskil Beach Resort. http://www.southerncrosshotels.mu/preskil-beach-resort/ which looks like this:

The racing is at a number of beaches (the idea is to showcase the whole of the island) and one of the days is at Le Morne yep and a few days racing straight in front of Le Preskil.

There's some info about the rates and packages for staying at the resort here - www.mauritiusfreeride.com/packages. We can do it a bit cheaper as well as they are happy to wheel and deal a bit. Last year we had some rooms with 3 beds which drops the cost quite a bit.

That's tempting... is there any hire gear available? I no longer have slalom gear and I doubt trying to sail a Quad will get me anywhere.

Your Quad would take you right over the reef out to One Eye?

Slalom sounds tempting.

Why do you think I wouldn't want to use the board allowance they offer for slalom gear? The two sails and board I got in my bag is exactly 23 kg.

7.8m with 97L for most of the races then on the marathon race I used 8.6m with 110 as it was a bit lighter.

This year I would just be bringing 107 and 7.8/8.6 super easy.

Are they planning it again this year?

How do the sizes translate for a little old 63yo fella who likes flattish water? Whats the range if wind strength to cater to?

I hope so for 2015. A number of WA sailors have expressed interest in going. The deal and packages ex WA certainly looked good.
