Assuming they haven't changed them that much for next year what one to get.
I've been using the overdrive all year and love it just wondering if there's going to be a noticeable difference between them. Is the M1 going to have more bottom end? Wider range? Higher top speed? Anyone used both?

should I get the 7.8 to go with the 8.6 or just drop down to the 7.0

Im sure the brochure will say they have more bottom end , wider range , higher top speed , more user friendly , stronger yet lighter and produced in a more eco friendly way.

Yes but has anyone actually used both and can confirm or denie those claims. They also say the overdrive has less backhand pressure for higher reaching speed but shouldn't the M1 be quicker?

can't comment on the M1R vs M1OD but I've had the previous models-R8 in both editions in 7.0 and 7.8.

OD rigs a tad faster, lighter, no back hand excellent cam rotation, really good freerace sail
Reflex : a tad heavier, lots of pull/drive/ amazing top speed, cam rotation in two times/no back hand either as it actually comes down to your lines settings.

Ended up using the reflexes for racing my mates and the OD's for foiling and long distance runs.

Thanks, the backhand pressure thing I thought was odd as well for the same reason you would just move the lines back.
Maybe they mean they have moved the draft back ?

Sean is basically bang on. I've had an r8 overdrive 7.8 and now have mach1's. What I'd add is the OD feels a bit softer, particularly in the head. They definitely don't have near the top end of the mach1, not speed, top of the wind range wise. Personally I don't reckon you notice the weight difference when going.

I actually bought the OD for foiling but now use mach1's/hyperglide, as for course racing the mach1 is the faster sail, freefoiling different story as the sweet rotation on the OD and shorter boom size for size makes it a touch easier.

All depends on your priorities, if you want the fastest of the two with the bigger wind range, get the mach1/2. Doesn't rotate quite a well, touch heavier...the trade offs.

That's surprising.. I haven't weighed them but I got the impression that my M1 7m was lighter than my OD- although I think my OD was a few models old..

Think I'm err'ing towards the Mach1, I find the OD really easy to use so if the Mach1 is going to give me a bit more range and top end without sacrificing bottom end then being a bit tougher to rotate is a non issue.

I also found the M1 rotated easier ( or at least out of the bag with no spacers changing) than my older overdrives..I am a weakling so I like very easy rotation..

SBC Just look at the website specs, model for model the OD is lighter, picking them up in the bag it's noticeable but not really on the water; they have one less batten, one less cam and also smaller cams. This also why they rotate better, the cams are shorter and the luff pocket smaller so the batten has less of a mechanical lever to overcome when popping side to side. Don't get me wrong the rotation on the M1 is very very good but personally I still think the OD rotates better and theoretically it should.

They are both great sails but there's a reason the M1 is their premium race sail.

Ok. I checked the website.. I didn't realise that their was a M1 race sail and an overdrive M1..I'm comparing the older overdrives and the overdrive M1..
