So yesterday I decided to go for a sail and carried my small board out to the car which was parked on the street. Didn't have my car keys so put it on the nature strip, came in and grabbed the medium board and keys. When I walked out the small board was gone. There is a black SUV across the road about to drive off and I dash across and see my board in the back. Oi!!! WTF. The dude goes. Oh I though it was my lucky day and you were throwing it out. Really!!! People never fail to surprise me.

LOL, that's the downside to kerbside cleanup. I heard of someone losing a TV that way.

Yep. If its not sitting on your property or chained up, its fair game.

Possibly dodgy....maybe not, but his brain certainly works different to mine.

It happens. There was as story in out local paper recently about some kids who had their bicycles stolen from their front lawn.

The following week, a follow up story....someone had taken them thinking they were for the council cleanup, and when they saw the story in the paper they returned them.

^ Kids pinched them. Parents returned them maybe.

It's an Aussie thing , apart from a car , if you leave anything on the front lawn , near the curb , it means FREE !
All of us would see a shiny valuable windsurfer and should knock on the door first .
But a average jo would see a stupid surfboard with silly straps that his kids could paddle on .

Wow, working on that logic....down my way there's heaps of boats left out on the verge, unfortunately my little outlander isn't big enough to tow half of them.

OK , boats are also off limits . Also running mowers .
But there is a line of confusion obviously.
Is it just me , or is it a thing to leave semi valuable junk in the curb to be taken away ?

Mark, the laws for abandoned humans, like children left unattended are different, we could possibility arrange a trade.

Maybe he had a fence to build.

Actions like that are theft under the guise of mistake.

It happens a bit, they're operating with intent.

To suggest someone can't put something of value down at the front of their house while loading the car, as it may be seen a rubbish is crap. The people who steel from the verge should be give the same treatment as every other thief. Knuckle sandwich

Before leaving home I did the stupid thing of putting my surfboard on top of the car while put all the windsurfing gear inside the car. My storage area is rather cramped so putting the board on top of the car was safer than putting it on the concrete driveway. Unfortunately I drove off with it still on top of the car. Where it fell off I am not sure, and it wasn't until I returned 3 hours later that I realised my folly. I never found the board so someone picked it, thinking it was an orphan or unwanted child. The good thing was that my insurance paid for a replacement. Personally, I would have preferred it if someone returned my original board. Do we live in a country of thieves or is it just the convict heritage?
