Can anybody tell me if the Lord Howe Island Windsurfing Safari is on in August this year? I have been 3 times already and enjoyed every time. Good winds, warmer water and fantastic gear. Made some good friends.

Thinking of going again are you Pete? It's tempting, I think there's still a stone left unturned. I've heard a whisper it might be.

Old Pete? Who is old Pete? I just know young Pete that has a metal detector and a particular fondness for fish-bread ;-)

Does Tim still read the forums?

tango tacking Tim just put an all points bulletin this very afternoon Fish Bread, its the last one so an auspicious event to say the least.
Me thinks the class of 08-09 will dust off the harnesses and break out the mouldy old steamers and book tickets on the indiana jones express out of port mac, and B- line for the racetrack at spot X

Old Pete can be seen here from about 55 seconds to a minute. He is a keen bottle trader, raconteur and man about town.

Is he still keeping people in Canton stocked up with pastries, bread, and cups of tea? One of the nicest places to be in a winter westerly, as long as there is a cup of tea at hand.

Hey Pete, yes indeedy, the Lord Howe Trip is on this year for the last time.

This year the trip is running between August 4-18.

Tas & I are selling up after this trip, it's been fantastic fun and we've done a lot of great sailing and met some excellent folks.

Hope to see some familiar faces on the Lord Howe Windsports swansong!

Sad to hear you are selling up. I really wish I could have attended and we probably could have done the first or second one.

It is sad but it has been amazing introducing people to such a pristine sailing environment.

It's pretty hard to justify the investment unfortunately, but we had a great time trying!

Would have liked to seen you over there.

Tas has just let me know that there are real cheap packages going through Oxley Travel for the next couple of days.

Airfares & 5 nights accom from $759 or 7 nights from $819.

By the way, I've got nothing to do with Oxley Travel or Qantas!

But, if you do come, you know where you can hire some gear....

So what would be an estimate of the total cost including gear hire? If possible I'd be happy with twin share with another windsurfer. I really need a holiday after personal and work stress and have not been on a windsurfing holiday since about 1998. I'd love to go and also document the trip with pictures and videos.

When I went, I was amazed how warm it was, for a place that's not that far away.

It was really nice being able to walk or ride around, and not having to worry about anything except where your next Hawaiian or BBQ chicken pizza comes from. In winter, you really are part of a minority on LHI, but its great.

The walk/ride to the beach was such a chore too... all down hill, and past the shop for a pie or burger on the way home.

It was major culture shock for me to come back to Sydney, and see all the houses everywhere, after only 2 weeks on LHI. Or was it only 1 week, but felt like a much longer holiday?

Just rang Oxley travel. Those prices assume twin share so you have to man up or take a partner. 2 weeks air fare & accom for $1089, but not much accom left at that price. Gotta be cheaper than Green Island?

It beats me why they don't run more specials or even lower prices during off peak season. I thought the place was empty when I was there, so you would expect there would be a few vacancies. It really is a nice place to be this time of year.

I'm going to see if we can go there. It seems like a fantastic deal for a two week holiday. Pictures from previous years have always looked great.

Sounds right. The $759/$819 option is a little out of town, a 5 minute bike ride to the launch site. Old Pete and myself have manned up in the beachcomber. It's a little dearer, but still at the cheaper end because it's a 5 minute walk up a 45 deg hill. Some shots from the good old days.
