Hi , ive got a few people to teach sailboarding. Looking for old Raf style sails around 5 to 6m. Already have an old NP 6.9m RAF JET. Use 460 CC Sdm. What other sails are similar? Easy for learners to rig n use?

I find a more soft sail (with fewer battens/leech battens only) with a longer boom better for teaching absolute beginners.

Sails less than 5m are also easier to uphaul.

Lots of old soft sails on gumtree for under $100- just a case of finding one that is small enough.

We've found small (4-5m depending on sailor size/strength) is good for the first couple of outings but once you learn rig control a slightly larger sail (6m) provides a little more load and helps heaps with balance. Adam and myself found this with our learning and Darren is now backing this theory up with guys he is teaching to sail. Modern cut styles that allow significant de-powering with downhaul are the go. There's shedloads of cheap sails in these sizes, just avoid the real old time bombs, older wave sails with heaps of x-ply are pretty bulletproof.

Any wave sail is ideal.
I taught my nephews on a 5.0 se wave Ezzy.they tried falling through it but didn't succeed .

Have got a prolimit 4.4m youth rig. Too small for adult.Also a way old NP Vx 5.8m full cammed.My girlfriend has tried the VX but says its hard to judge whether she has correct sheet angle. Cant see when sail is luffing. Pointing too high to wind is her goto direction. Old sails are ok but she wants something pretty looking (bahaha). So im looking for something 6m raf style easily rigged for a chick + great tuneability. Gimme some names of sails to look for so i can keep scanning the web.

Like clarence said. Soft sail to start. You nailed it in one; to be able to see when the sail is luffing is a good teaching aid. Also the older soft sails in this size can have a fair bit more belly in them, and a bit more drive, more pull, better to lean against.
I start with 4.2. Even a big guy in bugger all wind has gone good first lesson. I've used batton'd and/or bigger to mix it up in different condition's and keep coming back to that. Early day's.

Hey Olskool, I've got a 2012, 6.1m NP Firefly that is surplus to my needs as I bought some new sails. It's got no damage and is in very good condition. I've not advertised it, just let Dags and a few of his learner guys know about it. Chasing $200. Google it to see what one looks like, plenty of x-ply and plenty of fluro pink and purple.
