Looking at buying a board. My local second-hand shop is selling two mountain boards for roughly the same price.
The brown one is longer, has springs for turning and has a narrower wheelbase.
The green one is shorter, has a wider wheelbase, thick box tubing as the undercarriage, and brakes (I would disable those) but the is a thick rubber bushing that has been spray painted silver.
The Green one is 110cm long x 42cm wide.
I would just go and buy the green one but the bushing and the weight are a little bit of a concern. I think I could get some old windsurfing foot straps and drill them into the board if needed.
One more thing to add if I wanted to replace the board or lengthen the undercarriage then the green one would be a simple job.
Does anyone have an opinion on what to buy?

Hi there! You want space for your mast base. It's nice to have it close or over the front trucks. With these boards it'll be complicated. Do you want room for tacks? I cannot really do them on any of my boards.

I think I can do it.
With the green board, I was just going to get a bit of flat bar, round off the edges, drill some holes, and weld it to the box tubing.
The Brown board is a bit of a head-scratcher but something along the same lines.
With your mountain board, did you just need to drill a hole in the deck?

It's nice to have a wide stance. The board posted above looks good to me!

From amazon it looks like 46.85" long which comes out as 119 cm.
The green board is 110cm.

It's ideal for sand with the big tires. I have built a bunch of skate set ups over the years and this one blows everything I have ridden away.

The trucks and wheels come from europe here so you could build your own deck or buy a complete set up from them.

How does it do on dirt/grass?

Hard pack dirt roads are fun. Grass has way more drag and takes lots more sail power and that defeats the purpose for me. This is a tool for working on the skills when there is not enough wind for foiling.

In my experience a land windsurfing board is a good way to make sure you are too injured to get on the water when there is wind.

When I ride mine on hard ground I have been known to wear a helmet, softball shorts with hip pads, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist pads. Same for snowboarding on ice. LOL

Nice thing about mountain windboarding on grass is that the higher drag of grass actually does a better job of simulating the drag of a board on water. You have to use a bigger sail, like you would have to on water.

It's amazing that I read about the sport being dangerous. There's no need for a harness which means, no catapult. Also no need for straps and can go only as fast as one can jog.

If you want to go full speed and still be safe, then the board needs longer wheels and longer wheelspan.

Unlike a bicycle one just needs to step off from about a couple of inches when something goes wrong. Bicycles are much more dangerous!

A helmet is good idea but that's about it. When you "fall" you just let go of the boom and hop off the board, that's it.

A regular skateboard is more dangerous because of the very short wheelspan. Mountain boards' is much longer which means the riders center of gravity stays between the wheels.

If I lived inland, I'd only do that. No need for fancy gear, no getting wet, no need to drive very far, can do in 0 to 50 knots. When you're tired, you stop and rest anywhere you'd like! Can answer work calls even :D !

My wife learned on it, she had no prior experience and kids can do it too, it's very safe even for non athletic people.
