The local paper had a photo of a kite up a tree and a story about the locals being sick of the dramas caused by the kiters.

Probably just a couple of gumbys that are ruining it for the others.
The council is about regulating the rigging of kites in that area, not within 50 metres of shore I think it said.
Can see their point as their lines and kites can drop across the walking track & into houses front yards etc.

Although it's not our problem we look like getting dragged into it (no pun intended) but they mentioned looking at regulating both Kiting & windsurfing.
Had to happen eventually but I would rather we were not involved, keep your heads down guys.
We all need to use clear sails for a while, try to stay invisable!

Just read some of the posts on the kite forum about this.
There's some real units over there, sounds like some actually want to be banned or they just don't give a stuff about the decent kiters.

I read the minutes of the meeting and the proposals but did it ever happen & does anyone follow or know about the self imposed "rules"?

How could you rig up 50 metres off shore?
That's the only way to keep them off the path, trees & houses.

I would imagine you pump it up on the shore, then get your kite betty to hold the kite, or do the sand on the wingtip thingo, then walk with your lines out to the bouys and launch from there!
