Right, thinking of heading down the KA Sail route. Looking for a good sail in their range for bump and jump ocean stuff, and some flat water speed work- a tall order? Thinking a 5.3 and 5.9 Koyote would be the sweet sizes. nyway, I plan to use them on a 100 litre FSW board, maily in the ocean, but occasion on my 93 litre freerace board on the lakes too. Some say these sails are good for very high speeds, but are they up to handling the riggers of ocean work- and perhaps even a few small waves?

The other that model that got my attention is the Kult. But perhaps it won't shine on the flat water in high wind. Dunno, need some insight before spending the folding money.

I use the Koyote 6.6 on my fsw 100lt on both the harbour racing and on the fresh water lakes and love it, l also have a 5.8 kult which also gets used a lot.mine are all xply but not sure about the latest models. Great combination for me and paired with a good fin very slippery.

the kult is definitely up for ocean work and small waves. that's pretty much it's forte right there. for speed sailing, the kult being a bump and jump sail looses drive going deep off the wind. so if I were looking for a pure blasting sail I'd most likely pick the koyote.

for small waves it's the kult I'd pick, the koyote has tube battens and lower foot so you stand a chance of catching the foot and damaging the tube battens.

maybe pick the 5.9 koyote and the 5.3 kult

the koyote and kults are built rock solid. as good as the best on the market.

Have the 5.9m ready to go for you , all we need is some wind and come take it for a spin

I have the 2014 6.4 KA Kult and love it Phil. I bought it as my lightwind onshore wavesail, and BnJ sail. That is the sail I ran at SWR last time I was up. A sail like this is perfect for SWR's lumpy conditions and a FSW board. The Kults are still fast for what they are, I had mine out at Mark.J's place on New Years Eve and you know how nasty and bumpy that place is on an outgoing tide, but I still managed almost 30kn 2sec and a 20kn alpha on my 109TE Skate. If you wanna go of my 6.4 let me know, you are welcome to take it for a run.

If you want more stability to handle extra wind and more potential speed, there is the Koyote. More battens and built in draft for stability. No cambers so still friendly for SWR bumpy water. Take Mark's for a run - they look really nice. Also take on board Gestalts advice about the Koyote, some wise words there.

Gestalt and NBR may be on the money with both a Kult and Koyote. Use the 5.3 Kult for ocean wave and bump n jump. And the 5.9 Koyote for ocean and flatwater blasting. Now all amped to try the Koyote tomorrow. Blow wind blow!

I had a 7.0 m overdrive that l used to use on my jp fsw but damaged it and replaced with the koyote, best move cause of the narrower luff sleave and the build, l love it.

Kult is really the most versatile sail in the KA range. Primarily a Bump and Jump sail. It is designed with a fair degree of built in foil shape and a reasonable amount of luff curve so has good levels of stability. Downhauled so it twists right off it has a pretty good turn of speed.
As of 2012 when we reintroduced the Killer wave sail we changed Kult from a crossover wave sail to more a true Bump and Jump. As such we changed battens 3 and 4 from rod to glass tube for a more stable foil and the window area went from Xply to monofilm. Small waves you would get away with but would not take it into anything serious.
Kult is my "go to" sail for farting around on the Bay for sure.

Koyote is really more a "freerace" sail, for blasting without cams. 7 battens mean it is less throw around that the Kult although the 2 small sizes are still a fun bump and jump sail. Pretty high luff round for a RAF sail make it a bit stiffer in feel but is still a pretty active sail compared to something with cams.
Waves , well not what is is intended for. It,s fast. I really enjoy this sail as a Bay blaster but am finding myself using the Kult in the bigger sizes on my FSW not Koyote as it is more throw around and still pretty quick.
Koyote is awesome if you want to drag race your mates but don't want cams.

Nah, no more confused than normal...lol All great info Mr Love. Still leaning for the Koyote for bay jumping and flatwater blasting, and the Kult for bay jumping and some waves.

Phil, I went from NP sails to KA sails this year with a 5.8m Kult and 5.3m Kaos.
I love em.
The '13 Kaos is real easy to throw around on the waves and B&J but i've found the top end lacking (obviously because its a wave sail)
The Kult is the '12 model but awesome. My wind range has improved from 18-22 with a NP to 15 to >22 with the kult.
Can still manage 30kn on the flat stuff and can do a few good jumps too in the bumpy stuff.
I use it on my JP FSW 92L and Naish Koncept 110L both to good effect.

Hey Phil - Smaller in sail size means rougher conditions so keep that in mind with the sail choice. You probably don't need a powerful sail as the wind kicks in down there. Keep it versatile unless you go to queens more that the bay then you will want a sail that's powered up. Choices...........

Well, thanks to Mark Jordan I got to use the 5.9 KA Koyote yesterday, and I have to say it was sweeeeeet. Ran it on a 101 RRD FSW in pretty marginal conditions on a lake (yep, not the place I wanted it for) but it just felt great, nice and light with a good amount of grunt. Only had 10-14 knots breeze, with the odd 15 knot gust but it fair ripped the fsw board up into the high 20 knot range with ease. Tacks, gybes and waterstarts were easy, rotated like any regular freeride sail, but seemed more stable in the top end. Now hanging to run it on the ocean and jump a few waves Would still like to give the Kult a run to compare the two. But as it stands I'd be more than happy just using the Koyote for ocean, and a little, lake blasting. Sweet bit of gear.
