I was reading an old post regarding a jp supersport on your forum but have a couple of questions.
Ive been offered a 2013 supersport cheap and was thinking of picking it up for my son (16yrs old) he has not been windsurfing very long but has sailed since he was 8yrs old and has picked it up very quickly. He would be coming down from a 140l board.
I don't know anyone with a supersport but plenty with x cites and all the web footage i have seen is flat water blasting.
So a couple of questions if anyone can help.
How do they cope with heavy chop/waves (small ones)?
How durable are they (wood sandwich model)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

150 lbs, had my '12 SS 109 for two seasons now...
My lightest wind board, for sails 7.5 meters to flat water 5.5's, seems to plane up sooner than our 111 Futura and 118 Magic Ride, probably due to it's length and thick tail. Planes up waaaay sooner than our '16 Tabou Speedster 100 of also 65 cm width. The length seems to give a flatter nose rocker allowing the board to plane up really quickly in the slightest breezes, much sooner than our 150 Fanatic Shark.
Small chop only, probably less than 25 mph winds. Jibes really easy, keeping more speed than anything except the Magic Rides, which indeed jibe like Magic.
109 should float anyone up to 190 lbs, so it will last a while. I did weigh close to that back in 1989, but try to keep the weight down for other sports besides windsurfing.
I don't buy full on slalom boards due to their brittle skins and rougher rides, so Fast Freeride seems to be a good compromise. Probably could use the same width board, 65 cms, in a 90 liter package, and get the same early planing, better handling at the top end, and still slog home with a 7.5 sized sail.

i own a s/s 2016 136l it plaines about the same as my old zantos gybes alright fast in flat, water does not handle large bay chop and wave weli,this limits speed.if you check about half way into this video you will see the troubles im having compared to the bloke with the skinny board even bared of it wont open up much.i weigh 120 kg .check out the nose,the foam on there has saved the nose a lot of damage and is made out of foam mat squares
i would grab it any way as it will be a great general use board .wood sandwich wil be good if you protect the nose

The speed counter is cool. How do you do that?

download a program called dashware its free. it allows you to over lay your speeds using gps results on film takes a bit to learn but you can pick a gauge out of there list modify it to read the way u want and syncronise it to your film also can crop or join film and then send to afile with out destroying original

In general terms, it's not as friendly as a freeride boards. So depending on your son's level and attitude - may be good or too much for him.
If your son is not very heavy this will be his fast light wind board. If he needs something for medium winds, I would go smaller.

I'm over 100kg and the SS118 is my most used board on the river.

I struggle with it in the ocean chop. The board is just too fast (for me).
The feeling of being safe in chop improved greatly as I moved the straps a bit inwards.
Still, I use a friendlier FSW 115L board when ocean sailing.
