Hi Guys,
Normally to have fun you need 15+ knots in the Port Phillip Bay. I wondered if its fun when its 10knots with the right setup? foil board or foil kite supposedly get going but for the effort and money is it work? I mean is it exciting or I'd better spend this money and go to Bali and hit the booze or just watch tele (maybe take wife and kids out and earn points for the windier days) . just wondering those who have tried and got experience.
Problem with anything is you get bored after a while...

Personally, I never go out if it's not blowing at least 20 knts. unless there is good swell. In which case I use a 5meter and 110 liter board and bog out to catch some waves. I'd say a 5 meter is sail is where the sweet spot is... oh wait.

If you can slog straight out to sea about 5 kilometers it gets very windy, so I'm told.

Hang on guys aren't you listening, a kiter just said it's boring under 15kts.

I thought the whole reason for kites was to get out in light stuff?

Can't they do those spinny dangly things unless it's honking.

Surely there's more chics on the beach when they aren't getting their hair blown all over the place!

You should be right mate. Just sit with your back to the wind, tie the end of the yarn to your chair and hold your needles pretty firmly or wear gloves if the needles are new.

Nah

And I'd suggest not in 20 or 30 either.

actually 10 knots is my windsurf minimum (~20 kph)
in both summer on the water and in the winter on the ice n snow
in the summer it is with a longboard race board - Mistral Equipe II XR carbon with either 8 or 10 meter sails
in the summer they are quiet peaceful rides and in the winter, well - different

in the winter it is ideally on ice with the icesled and 6.3 sail

15 knots? Is that the number of tangles in the lines after being dragged along a beach.

IMO, when it's only 10 knots the wind in Melbourne is fickle (both strength and direction). It becomes consistent about 13-14 knots. At which point windsurfing starts to make sense. I drive down Beach Rd after work everyday. I would not say the kiters are out in force much earlier than windsurfers (but then most windsurfers in the bay don't seem to bother until they can get onto a small board ie. 17-18 knots).

10 knots is doable on a kite, you will be over taking all the 100kg +++++++ sail pumpers that are bogging down on their sup's and boat sized sails, whilst you are powered on a surf board laughing as you fly up wind past their sorry old asses.
When they DO actually finally get out past the waves, let them take what ever wave they want, as they have done the hard yards to get there and will probably take them an hour to get back out into the line up after tacking 2kms out to sea.

Aw cheers little buddy, thanks for those kind words. Hope you have a really nice weekend and I sincerely hope you get to have a really phat time kite boarding and enjoy doing all those cool tricks that you do. I am honestly envious of all the hot chicks that you cool kiters attract and the really cool and vigorous post-session banter that you engage in. I wish I was young and could have the skills and the fun that you do.

Maybe you do with easy fad activities.( no fad is not a typo for fag) But not with a real sport like windsurfing.

Serious question for lotofwind...
Why do you read and comment in the windsurfing forums?
Like many others I never click on or read the kiteboarding forums.
Just curious as I find it a little strange. Care to elaborate?

Greeny good to see you still around. The thing with internet trolls is they just seek attention, so as soon as you respond, they get rewarded with attention, even responding with with something that is punishing or shaming to them is still attention. Being IGNORED is what they really hate!!!! But people seem to enjoy feeding them? Just makes them bigger and stronger, the more you feed them.
