The first race was held in about 12 knots Southerly, ideal conditions for longboards.
The start line was not crowded so a good start was achieved.
Grumpy smurf struggled a bit to get to the windward mark on his rather dodgy SUP which featured a home fitted mast
track and some cunningly contrived speed blisters.AKA delam.
After that he was never headed and went on win very comfortably.
Basil who was sailing a mistral which should have been faster made a complete prat of himself and did not round all the marks and therefor recorded a DSQ
It is to be hoped that Grumpy Smurf in winning the first race he has ever entered will cope with the attendant fame and public adulation and continue to walk among us ordinary mortals.
Next Sunday it will be on again.Same place .Same time. Whatever the wind does.

Bad luck on the DSQ Barry. I drove past just in time to see the start, didn't look as crowded there as I thought it'd be.

Thanks Basil for the opportunity to fame and fortune and the start of my windsurfing career - I am now fielding sponsorship phone calls

The course was most interesting with upwind legs - this immediately turned away the rest of the field as their slalom boards did not wish to face the wind. Never having raced in any sailing or windsurfing in my life - I had to think out some form of tactics. Rounding the first mark (channel markers) were most challenging as I had to go a fair bit past it and then gybe (as I don't know how to tack) to it.

Overall, I really enjoyed myself! I hope that more people would get involved and just join in. You don't have to have the ideal equipment or the perfect skills to have great fun!

I counted 2 as I drove past, but I may have missed some.

With the forecast showing WNW winds things are not looking good the round 2,as I am not prepared to start races in offshore
conditions without rescue craft.
However I will be there and if conditions are suitable briefing will be 2.15 with the race starting at 2.30 Sunday 27 04 14
If the forecast proves correct it will be good for a short board sail.

Willy weather shows no North it's more wsw, but I'll probably be at Fangy's testing maxedout's repair to the avi 6.0

Go on, live a little

Barry's lived a lot already and is a spritely 70+?

Offshore from Novara can have you end up 9km away with a 50-60km walk back if things go badly

Hi Barry, I am still trying to find a Windsurfer One Design and I see I am competing with Adam with this pursuit! I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. I met up with some of the Windsurfer One Design crowd in Sydney last week and find they have a healthy growing fleet. They have enough for State and National Titles. Greg
