I thought this may be of interest to many, some years back i changed my insurance policy for home and contents from one of the major banks to Shannons - i went with Shannons as they were already insuring my vehicles and more importantly offer insurance for sporting equipment outside the house (most require the equipment to be in the house which is not much use for windsuring !). Items need to be itemised and a value placed against them so you need to update as you change gear but other than that Shannons provide a great piece of mind as the next examples will show
2 years back i had a aluminium boom stolen, i supplied the details and Shannons replaced the boom (they cash settled very quickly)
Move on to last week - i hit a sand bar fully powered up, got catapulted and completely destroyed my fantastic severne enigma carbon wave boom (fortunately it was carbon as it probably saved all my ribs by snapping rather than bending !). Picture attached. As you can imagine i was pretty upset !, its probably the most expensive 5 minute sailing i have ever had
On contacting Shannons they indicated that accidental damage was covered (something that i was not aware of) and asked for a valuation and a written report that the boom was unrepairable (kindly supplied by Steve at Windforce) - Shannons have settled in less than a week for the insured value - the service was excellent, fast and i can highly recommend them if you want some piece of mind around your kit . There is an excess however it is minor compared to kit cost and you can agree the excess up front with shannons.
a $1000 boom
You do need to advise them of the value of each piece of kit and it is important to itemise and insure for the "replacement value".
Its rare these days to get a service that really works this well - Shannons - highly recommended from me !
PS - there is no issue with the enigmas strength or quality, they are a fantastic boom - and i already have an identical replacement in the car (again thanks to Steve at Windforce).
Hope this helps others
