I had a great day sailing yesterday ,flying past a boat load of tourist in a glass bottom boat ,many would look up and take photos
windsurfing is obviously good to watch ,a couple of runs past them I clocked 27,5 knots ..spray time .

running down wind at 25-27 knots and almost out of control I stayed clear ,running into boats hurt ,but did give them one splash ,the little girl on the front of the boat sat up there with a big smile on her face and was more entertained by windsurfing rather than fish ,
As I was packing up ,lots of them came up to me and wanted to chat .I felt special . they all thought windsurfing was cool ,and they are right ,

Yes we do, I have jetskiers stop to watch me windfoil, boaters too, one guy on the shore said hey that is cool, then I had to explain that there was too little wind to foil so he could not see the foil lift the board out of the water, then he was like that is cool!

Looks like a great place with perfect conditions. It's always a great feeling when you get to buzz other water users. Might even spark an interest in our sport and get someone to try it.

Sorry to be off topic but is it a lack of wind there during the winter months? On my side of the globe, winter is the windy season and I live too far from the coast for access to thermal winds.

On topic, as others have said, you never know the day you spark the fascination for windsurfing for someone by riding by. I like to think that the more people that see us, the more the chances of sparking the interest in someone. It's hard to get interested in something that you see often or at all in many cases. You just hope that there isn't a parent on board that boat telling Jr: Look, son, it's one of those parasailers!

Most of the year the lake is empty of boats when I'm sailing.
I was out one day well powered in chop with my hands full and noticed the local ferry coming in from the side. It was gusty and I was thinking I'd have to waste the best wind so I could let him go past.
He stopped and powered to keep in place to let his passengers watch me and be entertained..I was careful to keep it together and not go splat in front of them..
Though they probably would have enjoyed a stack

There are a few cruise ships here, and regular sailboat races. The wind usually isn't close to planing speed with a fin but it's a lot of fun to fly around the races when they're out. Every now and then I'll get some questions.

This is one of my favorite times out there buzzing around their race, riding this race gear to about a tenth of its potential, just having fun. Really like when I pass by the black sailed boat heading the opposite way.

Winter we generally have to wait for cold fronts to come through for higher winds. Foiling makes for more days on the water through winter, and generally more pleasant sailing in the winter sun than shivering on the beach waiting for the next front to hit.

winter is our windiest time of the year with southerlies ,westerlies are usually followed by a SSW wind turning anti clock wise with every approaching front ,but generally through summer ,yes easterly direction .

Sorry, gone for much of the weekend. We're the same in the winter - waiting for cold fronts, shivering (sailing down to 3 of 4 degrees) and praying for spring. I live vicariously through all the Oz summer posts to get me through the coldest days.The difference is, we have no summer windy season. Just hot - a lot of 35ish days, humid and possibly weeks between sessions. Like you, foiling is a game changer, though, in the number of sessions we get.
