My original plan of gaffa-taping a coopers stubble to my arm might be as awesome as it first seemed. Any other recommendations?

i'm considering the Molokai camelbak.

I just use my fox motorbike one it holds 1.5 liters or 2 long necks of coopers.

I bought a Molokai pack last season to kite with. It fits ok and isn't much of a nuisance or danger when I stack it but the front of the harness is only connected by a very short zip. It doesn't really look that durable a connection. I'll keep using it until something breaks.

i was at a kite shop a couple of weeks ago and they had just had delivered but not yet unpacked some newly released vests with hydration bladders that were designed for us, Ion brand I think. Might be worth a look?

For racing we need to wear a life jacket, so a lot of us use the NPX vest which has a clip on hydration pack (Hydropouch). I stopped getting cramps while sailing as soon as I started using this. On really hot days I fill it with Staminade (which has added potassium), but I like Jimbob's idea of filling it with two longnecks.

So the ION one actually looks alright to me. Appears to have plenty of clearance for my seat harness, and while I don't wear a jacket, I'm reasonably sure it could go over the top anyway. 1 litre is a touch under what Camelbak provide, but that's still 1l more than I'm taking out now, and it's cheaper to boot (possibly inferior build-quality over the CB, or is the later simply pricier?).

Any tales from the trenches with these?

I use this one too. It really makes a difference to energy during a session and post sailing recovery. I had to shorten up the straps so it didn't move during sailing but now I don't even know it is there. I used to fill mine with gatorade until I discovered I am allergic to it. Now I use lemon cordial. It holds 1.5L, but I don't drink the full amount even when I sail all afternoon.

Another advantage for lightweights like us is that if you are overpowered you just add water to weigh and extra kilo or so..
