Need to replace the cracked boom clip housing and wondering if there's quick way to do this? Have severne enigma wave boom with cracked boom clip housing and it's not easy to take off...or should I just use brute force and see what happens..

I have the same problem with my 2016 enigma freemove, small cracks visible after first sailing that eventually burst. Severene sent me replacements with the instructions below. I haven't tried it (not a good handyman and got no tools) but just used tape for now. Let me know how you go as I'll attempt next.

Sitenote: This might be a general weakspot of the components used. I also have a simmer Black line with the same clips and the actual clips continue to burst. I'm on my third replacement now. Id hope severne will change the supplier of the clips.

Instructions:
The housing is glued on so it will take a bit of work to remove it. You can apply a bit if heat with a hair dyer first to the housing after removing the clip with a flat screwdriver. I then place a block of wood against the inside lip of the housing, resting on the boom grip, and then tap with a hammer to knock the housing off the boom arm. Sometimes is takes a while depending on how much glue was applied. When replacing with a new housing it is not vital that they be glued - some people are happy with this while others prefer to have it glued - so a couple of dabs of epoxy glue is all that is needed.

thanks...exactly what I'm after ....agree severne should change the supplier...mine start cracking within a year...not what I expect from a $1000 boom

I had the same issue. In my case and I suspect most you only need to replace the clips as the main body(the bit on the boom end will be fine. The clips crack because the SS pins rust and expand the plastic and crack. The clips come off really easy with some leverage with a screw driver to spread them wide enough

If it's the "outside" C part of the clam that is cracking, then I also have the same issue.

Apparently the instructions manual, who the hell RTFM especially for a boom! says it must not be stored with the clamp in the "out" position. That causes it extra stress. Also the combination of stainless pins and plastic causes different expansion cycles from the heat, so the plastic cracks easy. Nature of the design.

Ok no worries mine was on the enigma 180-226 carbon boom

It is not all of them, there was one batch with slightly more rigid plastic. Replacements should not crack.
I did my Enigma wave and as per instructions with wood for a drift and light hammer action they came off easy.

I took the housing off today. Really uncomplicated. Given the cracks i could peel off the housing very easily and I didn't even need the blowdryer and/or hammer.

As it turns out my replacement housings are too small but I'm sure they will send me the right ones rather shortly.

@Mark: Did you use any glue for the replacements? I can see why you actually woudn't need any as the pins will hold the housing in place.

I didn't glue as I had older ones that are tiny bit loose so I taped the boom first to make a tight fit

Watch the first 2 and a half minutes, this is how to get the boom hardware off, I have done a stack of them.

Ok finally changed...

1. hair dryer on old housing
2.use some spanner to twist and pull (hammer didnt work)
3.clean ends
4.use hair dryer to expand the new housing
5.push housing until first hole is aligned
6. use hammer to gently tap in keeping alignment so both holes are aligned
7.clips in with flat screw driver

no glue as I expect to replace these next year
