What do people do with a cubic metre of shaping dust after a board build .
Is it recyclable ?
I have been putting it in bin liner bags and then into the rubbish bin over several weeks . When it gets to the tip or in the rubbish truck the bag must burst and produce a cloud of dust and go everywhere . There must be a better way .
What do the company's who make many boards do with their rooms full of the stuff ?
Any ideas ?

I hotwire the rocker / deck shape and then cut the outline
Throw away big pieces.
Deck shaping is again a rough cut first then surform shaping.

I get about 3/4 of a shopping bag of (mostly) rough dust like beads mixed with some fine dust.... lets say 10L max from a board. I don't feel bad about that going to the tip.

I guess if you feel bad you could put it in a left over paint thinners can with some solvent and you will get it all to melt down to bugger-all. Then take it to the chemical shed at the tip and disclose the contents to them. I take my leftover thinners tainted with 2K to the chem shed and they don't charge.

A metre is a bit of an exaggeration , but at least a half .
I wonder what Cobra do with theirs.
I don't have a wire cutter but i contain all the dust into a large vac that is connected to my planer .
When you watch on YouTube a cnc cut board there is a ton of the stuff on the floor .
Or like the second pic in the Starboard HQ reveal post . That cnc board their watching getting cut would make a heap of the stuff . All nice and clean in that room , I want to see the other room where that vac hose goes .
Thats why there's not a lot of pics or vids of the Cobra factory. So secretive. Just a simple web site crapping on about eco friendly manufacturing . They won't show the sweat shop .The waste would be horrendous and toxic and that doesn't go down well with us purchasing nature lovers .

I agree with Mark, a hot wire saves most of the dust, also saves a lot of time. And you get the exact rocker you want. A plastic shopping bag, (if you can still get them), full is about all the dust I make per board.

I feel bad when I melt down excess styrofoam with petrol and then throw it in the garbage. Probably not great for the environment but oddly satisfying! Plus not much styrofoam fits in the bin.

I get left over blocks of polystyrene from work & the tip won't take it now it's classed like asbestos & has to go to the high temperature incinerator because it doesn't break down in landfill.
Which leads me to the question that they accept it in the garbage bin everything is packaged in it & people throw it out all the time .
So how does that work?

EPS dissolved in petrol. Hmmm Lemme think now. Flick a match to it..... Like WOW!!! Wasnt that called NAPALM??? Ever seen that stuff burn???

I was going to burn it in the backyard incinerator , ( like in the good ol days , when it was healthy to do so ) , but I still got a stack of old car tyres to get through first , and each one of those takes a couple days . Adds a unique flavour when roasting chestnuts .

Yeah, I remember a friend at school telling me this. I am too 'mature' to try it yet, although it has been tempting. It seems to retain the fuel much better than if you use acetone for some reason, or maybe its just the smell is stronger?

I am lazy, but maybe I shouldn't be. It just seems like an effort to get rid of large amounts of polystyrene unless I am already going to the tip. Its surprising how many things still come with so much packing.

I think its illegal to roast chestnuts in your backyard these days. The rest is fine, but make sure you stagger the tyres to ensure they burn evenly

It's really good to soak up oil on your garage floor.

Also burning styrofoam is really really bad for the Ozone Layer, so don't do it, we are getting sunburnt enough already windsurfing.

Vacuum bag in a garbage bag should squash it down nicely. Then squash in into a small bag so it doesn't expand again

I have many cubic metes of waste polystyrene each month. In Queensland there is a company that you take them clean material and they take off you for free to recycle it. If I use a 15 cub skip it cost $1600 to take to a tip.

Can you give me the name of that company maybe they do Sydney also
