My consistent record from arriving at the carpark to hitting the water is 5 minutes.
I can also derig in a similar time.

Of course, this relies on a few factors.
Fin already in board.
Harness lines already in position.
Footstrap already in position
Boom already set to correct length.
No cams.
Close park and High tide.
Being an arrogant goon to anyone standing around.

ahhh, the joys of van ownership.

I dunno, if it's cranking I'll be fast. If it's not so good, maybe a bit slower.

Yeah I've done that, but with my fin scabbard on and my vent open.

Desk to water in 30 minutes

if i'm on my own and it looks a bit scary about 30 to 45 mins


if my mates are already out there having a blast, 5mins.....benny hill style.

4.35 pm Standing in the kitchen telling my wife that I was going for a quick windsurf. Told that had to be back ready to LEAVE for Melbourne at 5.30pm for the in laws anniversary dinner- lateness not tolerated.
4.38- Rigging
4.45- Hit the water.
Five speed runs and could see a P.B. was in the offing.
One more run to make sure.
5.07- Hit the beach
5.15- In the shower
5.25 Announced that I was ready to go.
5.25 and 30 seconds Advised that a windsurf time factor had been built into departure time and we didn't have to leave untill 6.00pm.
5.26- Boot the computer
5.28- Download data to RealSpeed.
5.35- Confirm P.B., Download to GPSSS.
One hour precisely.

Now that is what I call commitment Im impressed

that's probably why i on a few times left the fin cover on and without a harness at times

I tend to wait for a guinea pig to test the conditions so I can rig the right size first up.[}:)]
If no one appears is still takes me around 20 min to make up my mind....

thats super quick compared to some of the guys I know.
We can have sailed for 2 hours and guys are still wandering around trying to figure out what to do.
Doesnt matter how many times you say it, "rig for the conditions, not what you want it to be" it still astounds me.

Arrive at beach no wind plenty sunshine ..Speak bollocks for an hour or so ...Rig 5.3 slowly wilst still speaking bollocks .. suddenly hear waves getting louder ..put harness on walk to waters edge with gear ...water still glassy..Getting strange looks... A foul stench fills my nostrils Ahhhhhh lano ... Plane out on the first puff of breeze looking behind to see the others in a mad dash to their cars for their gear and a rigging frenzy 10 waves later someone eventualy joins me

I was thinking that instead of lugging gear around in a van, with an old hearse you could probably drive around with your sails already rigged. Could save valuable seconds.

When at Burrum Heads I put on harness, attach the wrong sail to wrong board, walk 50m and become Ducatis guinea pig. (3mins)

Wait for him to rig and start sailing before I go ashore and change to correct gear.

I can be rigged and on the water in under 10 mins. There are 2 old guys about 70 who park, stroll over, walk down and look at the water, ask everyone what size sail they are using then head back to start the half hour rig up! (and its not like they've got a lot of time left) I'd rather sail than rig!

I know what you mean. I am with you. I wont talk before a after work session. I just hate rigging cammed sails in a rush as it's always the more you rush they more they play up.

I aswell undress while driving and usually arrive a the car park tie off, shoes, socks and shirt.

my best is 8mins from arriving to getting wet.......on the water that is

it took me longer than usual on saturday,

turns out there is about 1 million ways to loop the rope.

tried them all with some guys as a bit of fun while the wind was building. me as the guinea pig.

result.

Yeah, I've been guilty of that. Taking off shoes, changing into a rashie and applying sunscreen while driving on the highway has got to be way more dangerous than using a mobile phone

Hey does anyone keep a triple pulley on a hook thingey threaded onto their downhaul rope, to save time threading the rope through all the pulleys you can just hook the hook onto the sail clew. I've thought about this but looking in sailing shops can only find ones too big. This would save me heaps of time in winter, trying to thread rope with cold fingers.

I was in a world championship in the 80s, was clocked as the absolute slowest, by far. Of some 400 competitors. Always been finicky, still am. I find little details distract me at freestyle. For plain right-and-left sailing, nothing matters and am fast as any.

Dressing in the car on the way: yep. Leaving work in a suit, 15-20 minutes later in shorts, with the suit and shirt all neat on the hanger at the back.

Girlfriend used to find me weird. (Actually, still does.)

most of you obviously dont have to put a wetsuit on, that in itself can take over 5 minutes.

should be the start of a race. the "rigging start". Or one step further. Start the race on the other side of town therefore including the drive, the carpark space,the unpack,the rigging, and out to the mark and back ????? who is the True Champion ??

The Mrs takes 4 min 35 to get it done properly with correct downhaul but she is trying to get the time down so i can spend more time on the water !

I will keep you infromed of her progress !
