I just got back from a session this morning and realised just how unfit I am. The other guys were still blasting along while I just could not keep going.

How does everyone else keep fit (apart from lots of sailing)?

If someone can suggest a diet that consists of drinking lots of beer I will be very happy

I go to the gym 3 times a week, sail a laser at least 4 times a week, work as a glassy at the sailing club bar, Train for triathlon, which at the moment means running at least 15kms a week and doing 2 seessions a week on the bike, no swimming at the moment because it's too cold.....Oh and i Don't drink!

That's a bit too much fitness, i've tried the weight's thing, 100 reps each arm with something heavy, my prefered weight is a bottle of wild turkey and cola, if you are more advanced you could do this with a long neck of beer, some take this workout to serious and go for a full bottle of spirits, this particular exercise is performed while extensively exercising my neck and eye's while pushing out my chest for anything up to 15 minutes. After watching the scantley dress hot girls walk past i slowly drop my head fowards to my chest as i realize i'm too old for them, then quickly raise it again as more aproach, this is repeated for about 4 to 5 hours, the final step to my routine is a steady 4km walk after i reach into my pocket and see there is nothing in there for the taxi after paying $10 a bottle all night, thanks to the brilliant new grog tax. You should not repeat this extreme work out more than twice a week as it is not good for your wallet, or sunday morning surf..

Ride a bike to work.

Riding 45min to work beats the hell out of sitting in traffic for 45 min. Also beats the hell out of 45min on a train or tram having some sickly, snotty bloke sneaze cr@p all over you.

Good technique and gear helps to. For example I used to get stuffed when learning to water start, pretty good now and little effort required. Being overpowered and underpowered (excessive pumping) doesn't help, so rigging the right gear helps heaps.

Cold Melbourne water also seems to bugger me. Although this maybe partly mental.

I dont, just like your good self I just hang in there with the 2-3 sessions a month til Summer hits, (just like today frozen and buggered) and then suffer the usual body hammering til I get fitness back to a reasonable level

Take up running. After 4 years of uni and drunken weekends, I decided to get back into my teenage passion of windsurfing. The problem was I weighed 114kgs. I'm now 91kgs and the last time I was windsurfing, I was out for 5 hours without a break.

If you can stick to twelve weeks of running, 3 times you'll be hooked. It sounds crap and I would have never thought I would have stuck to it but by going a bit further or faster each week it becomes very addictive. After various diets, gyms, footy etc I have found running the cheapest and most rewarding way of becoming and staying fit.

if your going to the pub dont catch a taxi home. just run home. works pretty good especially for footballers. just make sure you pick a pub close enuf to get home before the sun comes up. Other wise remember to take your sunnies with you.

Tornado, no offence mate but yer a retard...there is no "I don't drink"; just drink, ok?

I hope somebody is paying you for all that work you're putting in!

Sorry, Tornado is not a retard; he's a top bloke. Just enthusiastic.

Cycle to the beach or to work (depends where you go in the daytime), go for a swim, invest in heavy glassware...

Seriously, keep the abs in shape and do some stetching every day or else something will go...

I have a job which involves walking around a large school campus, sometimes carrying things. Plus I walk to and from work.

Besides that I do nothing much. I personally think windsurfing is good for fitness so if I am unfit I will just keep doing it till I get fitter. I am not really interested in doing other exercises to get better at windsurfing. If I did have to do something I'd probably go swimming.

So called "Optimal Diet" (try at Google)+swimming 30-40 minutes min 3 times/week.
Bicycle is good for windsurfers too (similar groups of mussles).

I'm fitness instructor by trade. Still when I got back into windsurfing I still damaged the ligaments in all my fingers from 3 days in a row of 5-6hours sailing. Unsure how I could have prepared for that. Now I have to warm up my fingers each morning so they don't lock in a clench fist. Was a great 3 days sailing though!

Had to work today. Sailed on Saturday only. Forecast is looking good for next weekend at this stage. Will have to repair board first though

Hey Ocean Blue ! What is your opinion of Lake Conewarre ? I have been there once and I am going to try windsurf there but I heard its very shallow...what is your opinion ? To me it seems to be excellent spot ?!

I tried eating really fast, cos doing things fast must use more energy right? But this wasn't giving me enough of a workout, so now I eat three times as much to maximise the benefit.

The lake is shallow - but quite sailable. Probably no more than about 2 metres at its deepest. You will need a weed fin though as its pretty thick at the moment.
Sails well when the winds are southerly.
