Jon88 said..Gday Guys,
I've been on here a while now but here's for my first post/question!
I've been sailing for just over a year and have recently moved to sailing at the beach/pinnaroo point (Mainly sailed at melville prior).
I've got an RRD firemove 112L that i bought through paul/Jez (awesome guys to deal with!) that I generally rig with a 5.5/6.5 wave sail on an rd mast. I've got a 38inch straight fin with it but need something a bit more suited to the ocean & sea weed!
any info on what would be well suited??
cheers in advance!
Jon
I sail the same location and use a MFC 40cm weedburner. I sail a 72cm wide board which is about the same width of your RRD, so I would imagine that it would be ok.
The next size down in the weedburner is a 34cm, that I also have, but find it to small for a board that wide(even with a 6m sail).
Weed fins can have a different feel between brands. I've used a 36cm custom weed fin that had more power that the MFC that I have. Getting weedies in perth shops can be hard.
Have heard good things about vector fins as well, and also quite a few good raves around about the Tribal weed speed fins.
But can give a thumbs up for Maui Fin Co.
Have also tried the previous model Select weed and it was Cr**. The new model looks very different so could be worth a look at.
One other thing I would say to keep in mind when getting different opinions from forum members is to keep you skill level and the place you sail in mind. One might slag down a particular brand of fin, but this could be due to them sailing high end slalom/speed on flat water, and yes, a particular fin might not work for them. Sailing the ocean at pinnaroo is quite rough and most sailors would find that just being able to keep in control hard enough in that sort of condition, so a slightly slower and more controlled fin might be better over a super fast slippery number.
