Hi,

I'm Craig, I am looking to get back into the sport after more than 10 years away from it now that I am living in a great spot for it on the Central Coast. I was after some cheap gear to get me started that I would able replace as I go along and decide which type of board I would like. I managed to pick up a rig very cheap and it came with the following:

- Hybrid Evolution 286 Board
- 460 mast
- Boom
- Gaastra Flow Zero x 7.5
- Gaastra Flow Zero x 6

Would anyone have any info on the board, approximate volume etc or experience with the brand. I can't find anything online. I really was just looking at the rig when I bought it and will probably need something a little floatier to get started. I used to ride a F2 Sputnik but don't think I'd get away with that now.

The board was shaped by John Hall. He shaped large numbers of these type of boards in the late 80's and early 90's from Mona Vale in Sydney.
His slalom boards were very quick and there was a Mark Pedersen model "Pedersen Racing".
I would only be guessing re volume but Id say 100-110 litres.
Could you tell us what the dimensions are? Width and thickness would help.

I Can't help you with any details on the Hybrid, but no matter what volume, i'm sure it will be fast.
The one I had in late 90's was a bullet, but was retired after a uni joint snapped & the cleat went through the deck.
I really used to enjoy the challenge of riding my Hybrid, a board like that will test your skill in any conditions.

Thanks, I think it might be a bit too much at the moment but I only paid $70 for the complete set up so I can't complain. I'll look around for something in the 120 - 130L range to get me going. I'd love to try out a modern free ride board. JP or similar.

Try a Tabou Rocket 69 (125 litre). I did this after a few years away from the sport. Tried this as my first freeride board and Loved it!!!!! Plenty of others out there too.

It looks bigger than I was expecting. As close as I can measure its 2860 x 635 x 134. The thickness runs almost the length of the board from the Y in Hybrid right through to the tail. I'm picking it for about 110 or 115. Big enough for me to have a crack at. I'm 90 kg so it will be touch and go unless I can remember how to water start, it seems easy enough in my head!

Using those dimensions I'd say the volume is between 135-145 litres
