Hey guys , just after a bit of help/info on fins.
I am starting out and have been collecting some second hand gear.
I have 2 boards, 1 is 168lt the other is 131lt. now the fins appear to inter change as the screw holes line up and the fin base fits into the board, yet the depth of the fin bases are different and the screws aren't long enough to make contact.
What I think I want is a small fin for the 168lt board, so that I can use it in the shallow estuary. yet the fins that I have are quite long, making it unsuitable. Do I just get longer screws so I can use the smaller weed fin or do I need to go to the shop and get one with the deeper base.

It sounds like you have one fin that is Tuttle base and the other is Deep Tuttle Base. The bigger boards, which often use much longer fins, are often Deep Tuttle base boxes. Just use longer screws for normal tuttle base fins.

Deep Tuttle base fins are just that; deeper. The fin base is deeper into a deeper box. The other dimensions are the same, so Tuttle base fits into Deep Tuttle, but not the other way around.

On the other hand, you may just have normal Tuttle boxes and one board is thicker than the other so it needs longer screws. This is also common.

Also make sure you use rubber washers to seal the holes
