Hi Gang,
Looking at a second hand JP Aust Freeride 145 as a beginer / intermediate board.
I am currently sailing a 146 lt SUP. I'm 85 kg.

I just can't find much info on this model, must be a bit old maybe?
How would it compare to an X-Cite ride? I have read plenty about the X-Cite ride.
Looks to be a similar board from the pictures, but that can be very deceiving?
Would it be a good model for me?
Any idea how old it could be? The owner doesn't know.

May be a bit on the narrow side for me?
I do need to uphaul.
Having said that the owner said he can uphaul on it no worries.

I think this board is probably over 10 years old. I'm wondering if I'm better to maybe spend a little more for a more up to date model like an X-Cite ride?

I have an X-Cite Ride 146. Never ridden anything else so I can't do a comparison for you. The one you are looking at sounds a bit old. Mine is 76 cm wide and is plenty stable for my 78kgs. You can up haul when the wind is light. it is also reasonably quick, depending what sail you use. If you look at the new boards you will notice that hey have made some changes to the X-Cite Ride...more sporty. A second hand board may be harder to come by, however there are a few of them currently on the buy and sell section(various sizes though).

If you can water start, go for a new model like the X-Cite and go smaller 130L maybe. you'll get more out of it.

JP FR145 seems to be from around 2002
in 2003 it was a 146 at 73 cm wide
newer boards are wider and plane earlier
so what
this board will float you well and go fast
you may NOT be able to sell it quickly if you ever decide to
so, a longer term decision
it is NOT a classique - some older boards sell easier
some people let you try before you buy
if you plan to do lotsa light wind with 8.x
this board should be fine...
may be a cheap way to get in

Waterstarting is not as hard as it sounds. Falling in also provides lots of opportunities to practice. Your technique will improve over time and there will be less need for uphauling. Stability in your board will be important during the learning curve though.
