Hi guys,I thinking of buying new sail since my first and only sail got destroyed by some vandal it seems...My first sail was north sails r-type 7.2 (I know, not so great for starting out) and I`m thinking of going for ~9m2 sail now because its always light winds here. I am talking about really light, like 7 knots and going to 8-12 on a good days. I know for these kind of winds 12m2 sail is best but since i`m still learning i`m kinda worried to go for 10+ m2 now...-Is 9.0 m2 ok step from 7.2 ?
-Should I go for cam or no cam sail ? (my first had cams)
-Also any sail model suggestions are more then welcome...PS - I live in a crap third world country and almost no one sails here so renting/ borrowing is out of the question - as my only option I`ll need to take a 10h drive to closest store and buy new/used sail there...Thanks

You need to check your mast and boom as well, if you buy a bigger sail you might need to upgrade.... it's hard to give advice without knowing your level and the conditions you sail in, but generally such a big sail is heavy for learning.

If you are still learning, 9m is pretty big (even if light winds), although modern sails have a bigger wind range -- if you were doing alright with your 7.2 and feeling like you needed a bit more for the conditions then I guess 8.5 - 9 is OK. I definitely go no cams if you are still learning -- easier to rig and tune, luff pocket is only small so doesn't collect so much water to make up hauling a hassle, lighter and easier to manoeuvre. (Some of the Ezzy sails have twin cam system with a very narrow luff pocket and you can sail them with or without cams. not sure if they have that in the size you are talking.) You might need a bigger mast to if you are stepping up almost 2m.

Have fun

some additional info:
-i`m 82 Kg
-sailing on sea,
-i`m going to buy both mast and boom with sail,
-board is starboard go 170 i think. but getting a new board is kinda too much now

I think i was doing alright with my 7.2 cam sail i just wanted some more speed.

Idea of not having cams in a sail sounds wonderful to me (for the reasons u mentioned) but I never tried nocam sail , my only dilemma is:
-If you have 2 sails same size (lets say 9.5) cam and no cam. Does one create more speed from the same wind then the other???Thanks...

maybe a smaller board would give you more speed (around 120 l should be sweet)

I would recommend the Ezzy Cheeta 8.5m.
Its light, it uphauls with very little effort, its easy to rig, and has a wide wind range. Also very durable.
Rigs on any Constant Curve SDM or RDM mast. Best on Ezzy or North.
I have had the Ezzy Lion 9.5m (2 Cams) and to be honest the extra 1m2 was more of a burden than a help even in light winds, as once you get moving the extra drag of a large sail slows you down. Big sails also require bigger fins.
The cheeta will get me planing on a 120L board in 10-12 knots. I weigh 75KG.
