Hi Folks,

just wishing to draw some attention to a post I've put up on the Tassie forum regarding harness spreader bars - is someone in the know on how to measure them to get their size/length? If it's brand specific - my particular harness is a Prolimit.

I do know flying objects make a couple of different spreader bar lengths but I am not sure where they measure them from. You could ask a FO stockist to measure some for you - Windforce in WA is one.
You want a bigger harness bar if you are using most of your strap.
You want the straps as short as possible to minimise vertical movement of the bar and keep everything stable.

You measure them from end to end, including the curve, just like measuring a board along the bottom, with the tape following the curve.
Are you looking for a fixed bar or a sliding bar, like the one in my avatar, except not broken?
For a slider the shorter the length, the more slide you get out of it, I like to keep mine around 10" max.
For fixed, you have to measure from harness clip to clip, including the curve.
They are generally not brand specific.

I thought that might be the case. I found a post on another site that seemed to be suggesting something else, but it wasn't really clear. At least that's solved the measuring part.

As for the harness itself, it's a fixed bar. A fellow rider and I were having a yack yesterday about it - he was wondering if it might make more sense to just buy a smaller harness?
