I have had this idea for a while and i got sick of throwing good harness away just cos the rope broke. They all use crap rope because its easier to sew through. So after 5 yrs of having now work shop he it is. Enjoy.

Cool, but I see lacerations in your future. Cut the bolts shorter and put some dome head nuts on.

I wear out about 2-sets a year but I also break some through catapults.

I'd hate to have an indestructible harness lines as that'll be either a boom or me being destroyed.

Does look a good solution though, Bit of heat shrink around the screws will fix up any prob's

I don,t think they,ll be indestructible, ropes rated to 200kg. Just trying to save a few dollars. All my lines last about a year and i rather spend my dollars on new sails than lines.
I like the heat shrink idea as the dome nuts idea wouldn,t work (Sorry Ian)

Come on Kato, I expected to see some solid stainless steel harness lines there? Why even use rope?


If you are after the low-tech route, sailworks sell adjustable harness lines that you can just replace the rope and tubing whenever you want. They use a clam cleat setup.

taking it 1 step further, you can also convert the broken lines to fully adjustable lines. I did a write up on another forum a while back http://www.deepfried.tv/forum/postings.cfm?id=2366

Just a note that I have since removed the zip ties and just tied a bowline around the thimbles.

It works great and is the only setup that I have tried where you can actually adjust the length quite easily while on the go. Probably not necessary for wave riding, but its good for formula or salom.

looks great kato i havent had any trouble with the rope rather than the plastic , ive got 3 months out of the last prydes
kato i think the reason they use softer rope and plastic is because of the hight of the needle bar, most machines are set a bit low and makes it hard to sew the depth
