Did anyone have problems putting harness (with a spreader bar) in hand luggage? More interested with experience in flights around Europe. Thanks!

In Paris I once had to remove my harness from my check-in bag as bag was overweight. Ended up wearing it as a belt as I walked thru, no security issue, just grins. I felt ridiculous, but no hold up.

am sitting here looking at a 35cm carbon fin, thinking the same - dare I carry it as hand luggage ?

i think there is always a risk you get a tough officer, but I dont see any references in the detailed guidelines that the officer could point to excluding something like a harness or a fin. The closest I see are metal tools like screwdrivers or files over 10cm. Fin does kinda look like a machette tho, to a heathen.

You never know what security people might decide to confiscate. I certainly wouldn't risk a metal spreader bar or a fin of any kind, as they even confiscate crochet hooks and teensy little nail files from little old ladies!
(in Australia; can't imagine why Europe would be any freer, given the political climate.)

Just spoke with a Eurostar security officer (the train tunnel that links London to Paris, super tight security), he thought same general rules apply as planes. The criteria for them as written on the signs is simple, can the object be considered a sharp object that can inflict harm.

he didnt seem bothered by a picture of a harness with hook. A bit curious about the photo of a fin tho but didnt seem too fussed.

emailed Select Fins. Very helpful and quick. Hadnt heard of problems. They stressed their lads on the factory floor use the fins to cut their lunch sausages, ie sharp, so better not take the risk in hand baggage.

I've taken carbon race fins with super sharp trailing edges in carry-on without issue, but admit I was nervous about it. no questions asked

If your worried about the harness bar, remove it and place it in your checked in luggage.

First time I flew with my windsurfing gear from Ireland to the US I had my fins in my hand luggage, got stopped at security and told they weren't allowed in my hand luggage and I had to go back to the checkin and check them in with the rest of my luggage. Luckily I had them in a fin bag, so was able to check them in but I was still panicking they wouldn't arrive at the other end. Now I always put them in my suitcase that I check in

Once flew with a carbon extension in hand luggage. got confiscated
take off spreader bar at least or just use harness as padding for nose of your board

Now after reading all this I want you to show up wearing it and hang a number of slalom fins from it
