Hi All,
We are still waiting on a flyer to be finished for the Green Island Nationals but I can tell you that they will be on and the dates will be from Monday the 24th of July until Friday the 28th of July.

This event is always one of the best on the windsurfing calendar, covering the Slalom, FreeRace and FreeStyle disciplines and located in one of the best windsurfing locations in Australia. There is a relaxing, party atmosphere, the wind is normally honking, it's warm and the waters are crystal clear.

Stand by for the flyer with all the final details.

Regards, Scot Farley (President Windsurfing Queensland)

This might help, clarify which green island, and which Great Barrier Reef,

Damn that video gets me excited!!!
Looks like Upollo or Middle Cay, absolute magic!!
Reminds me of my days working at the beach-hire on Green island.
Would go for a sail during lunch break.
Got a bit carried away one day and went to Arlington reef & back.(Boss not happy!!)

Those of you contemplating going, Just do it, Windsurfers' paradise!

Question - Is there just a social category? (sailing & beer drinking!)

Freerace is probably that Category! As you are only sailing the 1 x 1hr competition heat per day, problem is who can resist sailing for 3+ hours around that 1 hr... you end up shagged by the end of the week cause you've sailed about 20hrs!
one beer and its snooze time on the ferry on the way back to Cairns , then amp up with a sugar fix at the SaltBar, collapse later in the night wake up earliesh and do it all again, rinse and repeat x 5

Some go harder on certain nights, some go missing on certain nights, some just take it easy and retire early, (probably the smart ones!) some look seedy on the boat ride over...the 'flicky spinny crew' seem to go pretty hard....must be all that spinning that makes em thirsty...the Tasmanians tend to get lost, think its the bright lights, the kerosine lanterns get turned off early down there, the females all seem to end up in Hospital...

On the water everyone goes hard when they need to, then off the water it's all chilled... it's a bloody good week!

Sounds like a good bunch Jonesy!

I remember the mornings staggering from Troppo's night club to the ferry terminal, then a nice boat ride to work!

Never been sea-sick since! (Conditioning)

Many people travel up by Road? (I'm in Airlie)

Maybe a road-trip could be the go!

No, can't make it this year, I have an unwell elderly mother who is just coming out of hospital next week after being in hospital since the beginning of April and I think I'ld better stick around down here in Antarctica (Tas). Not the right year for me & GI unfortunately.

After reading your last post it sounds like you need a wetsuit helmet or beanie under your helmet..It's hard enough to get motivated to sail up here where it's 12 degrees air + water..Tassie ..brrr..

Don't panic yet, Bruce. All the goodies normally come out the week before. I would think mid to late next week.
