See this link for Green Island 2018 on Australian Windsurfing Association web page.

www.windsurfing.org/

Proposed dates are 15-20 July 2018.

Last time I spoke with the other AWA reps these dates were locked in, and I am getting confirmation at the moment.

Yes, Green Island is on.

I have been in touch with Green Island organiser (who is currently at Defi Wind in France).

There was an unexpected problem with server/host of Green Island webpage recently, meaning the link doesn't work.

The AWA reps are working on getting the official information up.

To quote from Ian Fox:

"I'm working asap to recover (the website). Sunday 15 July to Thursday 19 July are the scheduled dates for competition. Permits etc are all in process etc. Slalom and Freerace exactly as per previous years including the normal rules guidelines etc especially the 2 board 2 sail or alternative 1board3sail registration limit for all/both disciplines combined."

More updates to follow.

Bummer.

There are 2 other slalom events at the same time that Aussie riders could be interested in.
Choosing to enter an event will mean no other option but to bail the others. It means less entries for each event organisers.
Green Island is an event I don't want to miss, we all know how good it is when it blows and how good it is organised, but so are the other events...

First one is the Tahiti free ride cup, part of the Pacific Windsurf Cup.

Second one is the Mauritius Attitude Challenge.
www.mauritiuschallenge.com

Hope we can move the dates so we can give a chance to people wanting to do 2 events.
The tide are pretty good in Green Island July 1st to 5th.

Cheers,

It's that time of year, lucky NQ buggers!

For the fraction of the cost of a new foil you can spend a week here and actually 'windsurf' ! Not much to do at night though when you get back to the mainland.

Of course for the more sensible type there is a wide range of sophisticated cultural activities such as a choice of about 181 dining options, including organic , vegan, lactose intolerant , paleo, and any other eating disorders requirements , art galleries wine bars, Latin dancing , cheese tasting, craft markets,
cooking lessons, book readings, theatre , museums, quilting clubs, churches of all types, uber , casinos's, sky grog, strip clubs and so on.

Book your tickets now!

Can recommend this to anyone wanting a week of great sailing in an idyllic location. If you can stay on the island even better. I'll have to miss this years event but will be busting to get back next year!

Bad weather! wt?! think some here may argue that! My gut feeling is its going to be a windy NQ season, classic trade wind patterns

From the video, it looks like the Windguru forecast, especially the ICON version, was way optimistic. Was this the case?

Just trying to get an idea on how good the forecasts are if I decide to come north for a few weeks.

Would be great to see you up there Daffy. Is such a great fun place to sail. You probably already know this, but the Arlington Reef observations(via clickable map) are pretty close to GI. maybe drop a few knots, Kel can confirm.

What a place to sail and no better way than do it with a bunch of friendly windsurfers.
Bring it on.
