I am using a Naish 85% 400 RDM in my S-1's 5.3 and 4.7m2

I find the bend curve a good fit, but the stiffness makes the smaller sail, the 4.7m2 feel dead. I just can't tune it well. (I am big, and use it in 25mph plus)

Severne Masts are rare in NA, but we can now get them. The Redline is WAY too expensive here $650 US.

Blueline, is on sale due to the Gorilla coming on board. -$450 US. The Gorilla is a little more.

I can get a demo Gaastra 100 RDM for $400 (from a Pro) in very good condition. I use the 430 in my 5.9 and 6.3m2, and I am very happy with it.

Peterman DK mast data confirms Naish is a good Bend, but twice as stiff. No Gorilla data.

I am mainly sailing flatwater freestyle, but some onshore wave too.

Can you guys comment on the new Gorilla vs the older Blueline in the S-1?

For mine, if you are sailing in the surf, or anywhere for that matter, the warranty on the Gorilla is worth a couple of extra $$$ as insurance. 2 years no questions is pretty good.

I use the 370 Gorilla in my 2012 4.7 S1 by Severnes recommendation via e-mail after i asked the question. They said that's what Ben uses himself in the 4.7 S1. If using Severne extensions though you will have to go to the carbon wave grenade as the aluminium one only goes to 30cm whereas the carbon goes to 36cm and you will need 32cm to get correct downhaul.
My sail feels very responsive with this set up and rigs perfect. Still a back handed feeling sail but it has a pretty good wind range and feels pretty good if you move you harness lines back a little more than you would on say the equivalent sized Pryde sail. I used it in around 35 knots or so wind a few weeks ago and it was no problem and i weigh 67kg. I had it set up in the bottom clew hole as well.

I have Gorilla Masts and warantee make them a no-brainer.

The top and bottom got stuck on mine and after giving up on getting it separated Severne just gave me a new mast. No questions asked. So the warantee does not just cover breakage!
