I am new to windsurfing but I grew up sailing. I know this is a whole new adventure and I was curious about some boards I found for sale. I found a guy wanting to sell a Tiga Power Jibe, Bic Electric Rock and a F2 Axxis 268 with 2 masts and 5 booms with a harness for 800 aud. He also has a quiver range of 4.0 to 6.0. I weigh 95 kgs and am not sure if this is a good deal or if I weigh too much for the boards. Thanks for all the info as these are older boards. Also the F2 is basically brand new and the other two are in very good shape. Thanks for any help.

I should just add the aforementioned equipment is as good for a beginner as the Neil pryde 8.7 H2 that is being offered in the buy and sell section complete with X6 mast and Boom.

Never heard of any of that junk, so it's probably >7-8 years old, probably at least 10 years old. Probably wouldn't be worth taking off his hands for free. Oh and don't get blinded by the fact that you are getting not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, BUT FIVE booms for that price. Cause by the sounds of it they are all junk and not worth using anyway.

No this is not a good deal. For instance The Bic Electric Rock came out late 80s early 90s so is at least 21 years old. You don't need 5 booms. Booms (even Aluminum ones) very rarely break these days. I'm guessing the sails are probably old as well? The older the gear the harder it will be for you to progress. As a beginner, you probably only need 2 sails, 1 mast, 1 boom, 1 harness and a board. You can get all of this for under a grand and it will only be 2 - 3 years old. Stay away from anything much older. The above gear is pretty much worthless. $200 max.

Matty,

As mentioned above, don't think you're getting a good deal based on quantity! When I was about 19 I bought 2 boards, 2 masts, 4 booms, 5 sails & various other gear for $150. I tried to start w/surfing, but gave up due to not enjoying it - stored the gear in my garage roof until a year or so ago, dug it out & took it to local recycle shop. 15 years later I jumped on a mate's board & rig after not even looking at windsurfing for the whole 15 years...got hooked & bought a new kit which comprised of 1 board, 1 sail, 1 mast, 1 boom etc. A good 2nd hand kit will do the same job also, but try to get one within 4 years of age if you want to hang on to it for a few years. The older the gear, the less time before you have to buy more!

i made the mistake of buying a heap of stuff, all old as in 10 or so years old, when i strated. wish i hadnt, even though i picked windsurfing up fast it was all nearly useless after i learnt to stand and get going. spent a little more and you will be better off.

You'll regret it, a guy locally bought a similar deal here recently and he and his wife just cant learn on any of it. Got my new beginner gear out and had him and his wife wsurfing in a couple of hours. He paid $500 for 2 boards, 5 sails, 3 masts, 3 booms, and basically what he did was pay a guy $500 to clear his shed out for him Good deal for the guy clearimng his shed!!!!!

Ya better off paying a couple hundred bucks for lessons, then about $500 to a $1000 for some suitable gear for the level you;re at after lessons
