I thought people might be interested to see the difference between the wide angle of the hero 3 compared to the hero 4. I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The movie is done using the same K4 mount and extension but the view is noticeably bigger. One criticism I had of the K4 mount was it tended to dull the sensation of speed. That problem seems to be solved with the wider view.

I was critical of the new hero 4's as I saw them as a price rise for features I didn't need or want but for the extra 100 bucks over the old hero 3 silver plus I'm happy to pay the extra for the new wide view alone and never mind the other stuff. But still, 500 bucks is a lot of cash for a camera and I'm still not convinced the new range was a good move by go pro.

Sorry for yet another boring vid but I thought it was worth doing to show how cool the super wide view looks. This was a social sail with Mick Saunders in an 8 to 12 knot north easterly. I was only running a 9.6 metre instead of the 10.7 but I still got going in the gusts. The speed looks faster than it actually was. I didn't take the gps but my guess is nothing over 21 knots. The wider view gives a much better sensation of speed in my opinion.

I would love to see some wave sailing footage with this setup I reckon it would look bloody awesome.

The frame is so wide it makes your wave board look like a formula board and your wave sail look like a race sail.

Ok now I'm totally sold on these new 4's. The picture quality is better and shots like this were not possible with the 3's. This is my old caveman longboard. It's off the pace these days but production boards couldn't touch it in it's day. For a board about 20 years old it still managed 26.6 knots on the day! not bad for an old battleship! It was windy, 20 knots at times but extremely gusty. You may notice I drop my windward rail a lot especially downwind. 2 reasons, it was very gusty and the old beast has massive double concaves full length it looks like the front end of a sea plane. Generally it was very easy to sail offwind but the skinny tail was freaking me out in gybes lol.

I run 1080 S 60p and I get about 2 and a half hours, 2 hours if I forget to turn off the lcd screen. When I picked up the cam JB HiFi had the new Lexar 95 mb/s cards. These are definitely nice as they come with a handy usb 3 adapter and running in usb 3 I can transfer 3.7 gb in about half a minute. I'm using a 32 gb card which is plenty as the battery runs out before the card does in the resolution I'm running. The only way I could see a 64 gb card being necessary is if you want to record at 1440 or 4k. You could probably get away with a 16gb card but I think any smaller defeats the purpose. The new Lexar cards are definitely worth it in my opinion. Much faster than the 80mb's and about the same price.

Thanks for the info, I need to check my standard battery model. The Lexar seems the one to get! I'm new to this and have not used the pro - 4 as yet but I'm interesting in the pole you are using at the back of the harness.

Is this set-up not to risky when you have to bail out or crashes during high speed runs?

Cards: I prefer 64Gb when running hires at 60 frames (a must me reckon).
I was on a trip recently and didn't want to bother bringing the laptop to do transfers.
Brought 2 x 64Gb and cleaned them up after the trip.
Anyways a 64 is not that expensive on the internet.

Watch out though 32 or 64 - not all Class 10 will work, you need the right Xfer rate *and* write speed.
Follow the manufacturer's recomms.

With the 4, did they fix the remote losing power after an hour or so? Really annoying that.
