Hi all,

I went out to Boreen Point on the Sunshine Coast and watched a few of the windsurfers out there and have decided to get back into it.

I've done a few inquiries and wanted to know from the forum users about the following kit, pros/cons etc. I'm fairly heavy at 105kgs.

I got offered this for $2500;

KA 7.4m Koyote, Bic Core 145, packaged up with new mast, boom, extension and base (including 2 hours of training)

Does the equipment seem reasonable considering that I feel i'm back at the "beginners" status and considering my weight?

I doubt you will be completely back at the beginner stage but that gear is pretty spot on I reckon.

Yeah I'm looking forward to feeling that power again :)

As Jeff said, come up to Lake Weyba on Sunday, normally a beer and sausage is on offer if you get in early!

What is the boom? At heavyweight aluminum booms will wear out fast. Carbon is your friend at your weight.

The good news is that it's never been a better time to be a heavyweight windsurfer. With development filtering down from the PWA where big guys sail relatively large gear that would not be possible without modern materials.

You definitely get what you pay for - the heavier you are the more bang you get for quality gear. A light weight can get away with cheap gear because he is not putting so much stress on it.

Hi all,

I'm 41 so my last windsurfing experience would have been about 15/16 years of age. Along time ago... wow.. how time flies...

My question came about because I felt I got oversold some kite surfing kit awhile back, the kite was unmanageable for a beginner, and it really put me off in the end. I felt the sale person saw me coming and happened to have some kit that needed to move vs what I really needed. Disgruntled to say the least. Just don't want to part too easily with another few $1000 because of that experience.

Thanks for all the offers - I've unfortunately missed out on todays get together - with mountain biking being another passion. Is there a consolidated "calendar" on this site that shows all the social get togethers?

Perhaps one last question - from when does the "wind" season begin and end here in Queensland?
