Hi all, i'm heading over to Geraldton for the first time next Year From Mid Feb - Mid March. I've been told the best time for wind is Nov - Jan but due to my finances this year cant' go till later. Hoping someone can tell me if it's worth going at this time (mid feb - mid march).Also what time does the wind crank when it does? Is there wind most days? what are the water conditions like? does it honk every time there's wind? is it crowded? (probably a stupid question) and whats its like in Geraldton gernerally. When there's no wind, apart from going to the pub, is there anything to do, sights to see, good ways of kiiling time or is it just chill on the couch and wait for wind? Any advice /info re anything would be appreciated. Iv'e done some research myself but thought it might be a good idea to get some info from people that have been. Also where do most people stay. So far i'm looking at places in Geraldton.

hey dude, most reliable wind is probably than but the best combo of wind and waves is sep / oct / feb till may. Bring one big and one small board, sails 4 to 5 ish, bigger if u like sailing in light winds also. Doesn't get nuclear too often, 4.7 80l board most days it's on. Camp ground at coronation (tent or in car) or sunset caravan park, If got a car, not too far to shoot up to gnaraloo (6hrs flat out), no wind, Kalbarri and shark bay are nice spots. Spota are coro's (flat water to big waves out the back (about 800m) ), sunset if swell and point moore (especially if swell is small, hells gate will still have a wave, long way out, next stop sth Africa if u break something. 2 hrs sth, green head, 3 hrs sth Lancelin. Good idea to stay mobile if u can depending on conditions.

^^^ agreed.... and the season has been getting later so last few years mid Feb to Mid march was seeing at least 3 days a week wavesailing unless you're fat but depends what you are into and your weight Sambo? Might need a bit bigger than Terrys suggestions above if you want maximise TOW.
SUP and snorkel is great at Corro when there is no wind.

Whereto stay again depends what you're into, if you have SUP, surf, 3 windsurf boards and 6 sails, you will on the water so much that would maybe mean camp at Corro as you will be on the water heaps .....but if you have one waveboard and only wanna do the 20-25kn days with swell, then maybe in town for some comfort and only sail Sunset...

If you can't get into Corro then camping at Oakabella homestead just to the north is very nice and not much of a drive each day.

Def try to be mobile as greenhead and lancelin just have to be done also

I'm renting a van. Would a four wheel drive be a better idea. I'm really going for wind only but 1 - 3 ft waves would be nice also (average wave sailor) but again hoping to get 20 -25 and 25 - 30 kt days as much as possible. Does this happen much? I weigh 68kgs so will still be able to sail in less wind if need be. Was thinking i'll take 76, 86, 96L freewaves and 3.3, 3.7, 4.0, 4.2 ,4.5 ,5.0 and hopefully that will see me sailing the majority of the time? What's the average wave size at corro too?

Is there any info with all the spots (bump and jump, freeride, wave, slalom) and ideal conditions. Are they all on the a map?

Sunset- if we get a swelly day, cross off and overhead and a nicer wave riding angle.

Wind strength?Hard to say as its late in season but we only get a handful over 30kn all season so I reckon your sizes are spot on if you are 68kg

Quiosity question hyjack , if your powered up enough to get a wave board easily planing in flat water , is that too much power for wave riding ?

I am 68kg - last season I used 3.7, 4.2, 4.7 with a 71 L about 85% of the time, then a 5.3 and 84 L about 10% of the time, with SUP and slalom for the remainder (or just take the day off, go to the movies, do your washing).

Feb/March has shorter sailing sessions than Dec/Jan, so you might _only_ be on the water for a few hours per session. :-)
[ As with any perfect destination, you just might get a few days of light wind. ]

You can live pretty cheaply if you camp at Coro's ($8 per night, but you need to bring everything) or other beach-camp spots.
Is the van hire a camper, or just a courier-van ?

Gonna rent a house. 3 hour sessions will do. How much slalom sailing did you do last season and where? I might bring the falcon too.

And dude , don't be scared of gnaraloo, that time of year it's normally head high waves and some of the easiest funnest waves anywhere, your riding will improve every day, just sail on the incoming / high tide safe as. all the vids are massive days but jan feb is usually small and most euros etc have scarpered off to gero or margs or Esperance by than so not that busy, the homestead has cabins for $70 per night with electricity, water and a comfy bed seriously worth considering, 10k drive back to tombstones, 5 k down to gnaraloo bay for flat water.

during the season yep though starting to be less consistant late feb/march

all our breaks are left to right (as u look from the beach) and wind from the left, if it blows the other direction we tend to find something else to with our day do as we have no idea what to do with a wave from that side

Sunset Beach is the best and only place for decent cross to cross-off waveriding.

Squeeze in an hour at Corro and Pt Moore just to cross it off your list.

another one to check out on the way up is cervantes ,it howls there ..its mainly bump and jump ,
great thirsty point pizza and has a great pub .corros ,is the best spot for a fun wave ,
