have been starting to look for a gear bag for my sails, masts and booms so as i can get all of the gear out of the car and on the roof. Have had a bit of a look around and thought the prolimit aero session looked good(http://www.pro-limit.com/displayitemv14comp.php?item_id=6264)
what are people thoughts and recomendations??

Have a look at the Gun Sails combi bag,its good value and an excellant product.
check it out @ www.windsurfingsales.com.au

They're good but be wary how much stuff you pack in them they can be a pain to get on / off the car.

Having said that I do have a 4wd

had a pro limit that both zippers busted on and i believe this is not uncommon. shop responce was that its hard to get warranty as prolimit will claim that excessive pressure was applied, didn't try tough.

its true, it's easy too make them too heavy to lift. mine had wheels so i could get to the ute but it took some effort to get it on.

it's now a double dog bed.

Can thoroughly recommend a gear bag, especially for going away on holidays. I have a North Sails one.
I bought it to put windsurfing gear on the roof of the car to allow room in the car for other luggage, but have found it useful in the car to keep things more compact and tidy and keep the sun off. It is also easy to put gear in an open trailer if it is in the quiver bag without having to tie everything down separately, and I can have all my gear on the deck of a boat without having to worry about individual items being blown away or affected by the elements. The full bag is heavy but two people can carry it easily. Wheels at one end would be a plus.

Mine has a flap at one end that can be unzipped so you can see the end of everything and can easily pull out the one you want without having to unzip the full length zip. That's very useful especially if it is in the car, you want to be able to get at your stuff from the tailgate.
Where are the tie down points?
A bag that has tunnels underneath for the tie down straps is optimal because you don't risk crushing anything when tying securely. (mine doesn't have that feature)
Your bag sees designed for car top use so hopefully they have put that in the design.
Removable wheels are a great idea.

The Neil Pryde bags have the most critical feature of a gear bag.
The mast section, on the bottom, is separate to the sail section. There are zips along the side of the bag that allow you to strap just the mast section to your roof racks.
This way you do not crush you sails.
Make sure this is the case for your bag.
Size is also important. If the bag is designed to take 490/520 masts and you only have 460 or smaller, then make sure that there is a way of securing the slack. Otherwise the sagging end will bang on your roof and give you the s&! ts

I have been using a Neil Pryde gear bag for the past 5 years. I brought it second hand so I do not know how old it is. Very faded. It is great, even though the 490 mast sticks out past the zipper. Double zipper and extra straps so you can have it for a couple of sails or 5 or 6. The mast section is separate from the sail section and you just push through a couple of tie down straps through some pockets to hold it to your roof racks. Two zips are stuck but the important ones are still working. Made from heavy duty canvas and yes it does get heavy when you have 3 masts and 5 sails packed in. But I love it.

I have a couple of prolimit bags and one of aero bags they OK. Bit heavy for air plane travel but good for the top of the car, as you can put the bag on first and they add the gear!!! I had two of my zips go, but the little pull thingey is easy to replace.
