Interesting how we can have fun on a windsurf board. Am including windfoil.
2 days ago, high tide bumpy water and 21-28 knot wind, 5.5 and 93liter slalom board, really exciting and fun.
Yesterday, flat water and 7-15 knot breeze, Hover 122 and 5.2, almost as exciting and maybe more fun. I guess I'm easily pleased..

Most I know flop one way or the other in sports that compete for the same conditions.

I never could completely leave my old sports.
Maybe I'm subject to nostagia...good memories..and some bad. Takes both to be memorable.
Still looking for a good 80 liter bigger wave board for those overhead clean days.

I find it hard to believe that more people don't. Old gear is practically worthless. It might as well be saved for the odd days. I flip between kiting, windsurfing, surfing and kayaking on the same days. I love them all. Different flavors. Works for me.

Our experience in SE Qld is that one group always foils and another group who do both, depending on the wind strength, where the cut over is about 12 to 15 kts. The split would be approx 50 : 50

Cool, I'm part of the 2nd group, and right at 15 k it's too.

If I think back at all the posts you wrote about struggling with the foil, I would not say that. But maybe loosing some memories as we age is a good thing .

I reported 1st day, mostly 7-17, I'd foil until the wind dropped below 10. 5.2 sail.
I fell on foil jibe attempts, but always foiled past downwind.
End of day, gusts of 22 came in. I breached and porpoised. Guys my size were fully planing on 5.2 and 85 liter boards.
Same now. I still get overpowered on 5.2 when wind hits 22. I still need a gusts of 13 to get up and stable.

Less interesting is the fun killing. I've just been skunked two days in a row and drove home in traffic snarls.

This is why I have a mountain bike and don't chase the super low wind.

Windsurfing is not ice cream...

I'd say we are definatley deprived....tennis players don't ever have enough and can play every day.

as for fun I'd say windsurfing and surfing and perhaps kiting is still the most fun....I don't believe foil and wing based equipment is fun.

personal idea - because I lack strenght I might just switch to surfing (is it paddling you say?) or kiting.

the waist harness damps the important breathing area which cause to strain the heart more....even if you are super fit.

I played tennis seriously for 4 years, by the end of which was playing Open level and close to mid level college team varsity singles players. Tennis is very hard on the body. You can play 6 days a week, if you're under 30 years of age. But then you are limited to around 3 hours of structured practice time per day spread over 2 sessions.
Surfing might be harder. Surfers are competitive, and want every wave. Waves are very few at good spots, surfers plenty, and paddling hard for 2.5 hours is only for the fit and hard headed.
Windsurfing is by far the most laid back fun sport with friendly people around...by far. Unless you get into racing.

Possibly windfoiling is one sport that emphasisis technique and balance over any of the mentioned sports. Takes little muscle, except to carry gear to water's edge. Once up, more like controlling a glider than anything else.
Sailors who muscle windfoiling rarely have success. It's a feel, balance, and technique sport.

I have found the following really fun, in 10-14 knots with 1-2' waves foil upwind as far as I can while hooked in, then turn around and foil down wind unhooked almost following the waves, almost no pressure on the sail which I keep sheeted out.

I do that too.....but I go upwind because it's too windy to reach, then deep downwind playing on the 18" windswells up on foil and sometimes down on the hull.

Surfing anywhere other than ideal conditions with warm water is the most work to payoff sport I've ever experienced. Then again I also don't like kayaking or swimming.
I'm also no longer chasing the super low wind stuff, I'd rather go mountain biking.

I spend 4 weeks each Dec in Puerto Rico.
Find tropics overrated.

that's probably what I'll do. seat harness with lower back support....the one between race seat and waist harness.
