Is the fox 105 a good replacement for my carbon Atom 100 for blasting ? Am looking for a blasting board and just wanted a change from my Atom 100 which had since 2015 . I've got a RRD fsw 100 coming for bump and jump but quite like the look of the fox for blasting but don't want lose the speed the atom has. The sails I use in blasting mode are NCX 6, 7, and 7.5 anyone got one of these fox 105 and has advice on speed ? the sea conditions don't hamper speed on my atom .

I got the Bigger fox and can't say enough good things about it. Fast, fun, tough and light. Easy to sail when you want a lazy day but when pushed can really really fly.

can't say how good it is for blasting ! I had a full afternoon demo on it, I usually ride my isonic107, the fox was slightly faster to get on the plane (extra length is my guess) but mostly a weapon is medium to heavy chop.

I put the pedal down with a 7.0 reflex and nailed 33 knts in rough conditions.
Definitely faster than an Atom !

Jibe is awesome, sort of autopilot (though it stays in an curve and is not easy to steer if you want to shorten or widen)

Great great board ! Comes with a goretex vent, aggressive anti slip, and is not made by Cobra ! (looks tough !)
Only regret is the power box

Plenty don't like the PB. It's kept me away too

You could also look at the Windtech Silver Bullets - 64 (110L) & 57 (92L).

Active Trim Tail aids them to go super fast in chop. They're controllable, easy to sail and turn like demons

The 64 has done a 31 knot average NM in winter storm, deep water chop.

The newly available 57 hit a peak of 38 knots in the first few sessions - I expect it will do 40s.

Why is PB no good in a small freeride....?

This board looks great, and every owner I spoke to, raved about it.

Never understood why would the PB be inferior.

People will say two bolts are more secure, but I never had any problems with the PB.

As a bonus, it has one less bolt so easier to put on.

Having said that, I don't sail that fast...

That's real impressive F1 what's the biggest sail you use on the 105 ? I'm hoping to go 6 , 7. And 7.5 on it .

I used my brand new Duotone race sail 7.0 on the 105 yesterday and got 34.84 knots out of it in rough water, the board will take up to a 7.8 easy, with a bigger fin.

I don't think they are inferior, it's more of a pain to have a full bag of tuttle fins and not be able to use them on the fox !

I've had a go now on all 4 fox's 95,105,120,140. Love them all, great blasting boards. I've got a 105L and I'm 89kg. The sweat spot for the 95 is 5.5-6.5, 105 6.0-7.0, 120 7.0-8.0, 140 8.0-9.0. I was out Thursday night blasting on my 7.0 OD and the 105L.

The 105L will be great with the 6.0 and 7.0 NCX's that you have. At 82kg you'll get away with a 7.5NCX however you are asking a bit from the board and you'll need to fin it right (about a 38cm). Vector volt fins seem to be working well with this board (not that the stock fin is that bad either)

I also tried all the volumes and found the same "steering reward Fox effect" from 95 to 140l (just a slower acceleration on the 140). The deep and long vee superbly flies over any kind of chop and it encourages you to steer the board "on the toes", slightly heeled and using the inner back straps. The Fox really loves to sail this way and rewards you with effortless glide and an amazing sensation of complete control. IMHO trying to load it with bigger sail/fin and external straps can make you miss the true nature of the board. Extra power would bring nothing but kill the fun. Furthermore, getting into the external rear strap can become a bit tricky for the less skilled as the board tends to tilt on the windward rail and turn upwind (vee effect).
Entering the gibe you can also feel the Fox tilting on its vee. The rail dips and bites almost to the mast foot guiding the board really sharp. The harder you press, the shorter you turn without any loss of speed. The sensation of beeing centrifuged in the curve whatever the chop is really cool!
For me this shape brings something really new (or not seen for long) in the market. It's easy and effortless as a freeride but can go way faster in any kind of seas and any experimented rider will just enjoy to push it to the max. The only limitation I can see is the upwind ability. Reaching tight is not Fox's stronger point.. but who cares? It's not a foil it's a funboard

Another Fox fan here. Acceleration, handling and top speeds second to none. The handling in chop is just something else. I think my overall speeds are better in our lumpy water on my Fox than on my slalom boards. The 105 is now my go to board for blasting when there is some breeze.

I've had two sessions on a 140 which has been a light wind revelation with the combo of early planing and outstanding handling. That they look great and the construction seems very good doesn't go astray either. Have only good things to say about them!

Thanks Foolonhill and F2 I'm now a super excited owner of a 105 fox . (I'll post photo if can figure how to ) love the look of it can't wait get on water it's goin be brilliant partner to my RRD fsw . It's good to get real feed back from real owners in the real world .

The black things are the plastic foot strap bits I fitted first because the pads are quite thick and difficult to get the fixing screws started so I put them on before fitting straps to pull pads down a bit . Straps and pads feel super comfy the board looks and feels quality can't wait to get on the water and go blasting.

Hi Martin F2 I've got three fins to hopefully to work with the Fox a 34 for 6mtr the fox fin 36 for 7mtr and a 40 for 7.5 mtr

I would of preferred tuttle in my 140 just because I have lots of fins for that and finding a good 50cm powerbox was tricky. I eventually got a tectonics raptor to to go with my 8.6 M1 and the combo on the 140is awesome. Gives it a bit more of a racy feel. The stock fin works surprisingly well though.

i to found the outboard rear strap position a bit to far out for my size 11 feet.

Yeah I've set rear straps right back but in cuss think my feet to long for outside position too .I'm lucky all my fins PB g10.

I've been a Rocket man for a long time, tried all the range and still have a 115 (2014) & 135 (2015) as I've only just got my 105 fox and wanted to see how it went before departing with my beloved Rocket.

The Fox and Rocket have a similar feel at medium power, that comfortable ride over rough water, both are fantastic in these conditions. The fox can be pushed just that bit harder and faster while still maintaining control. The fox initiates into the gybe slightly better, both are good at this though. The Rocket has a slightly better glide factor through the exit from the gybe, which is good for intermediate sailor's and perhaps just slightly better bottom end.

Both boards are quite similar, however the fox is just that more exciting (in a controlled way - not scary exciting) and that top end control blasting over rough water is so addictive, the Fox just wants you to give it more.

So I'm now a total convert.

ps- I managed to have a go on a 140L fox, this was the real surprize in the range for me, a real gem. This is a fun big board, gybes so well, gets going with ease, just a lot of fun

ive played around with the strap settings to. Like you foolonhill I prefer the inboard settings, particularly on the back straps.The out ward settings on the back straps are just too outward and hard to fined, plus the outward settings seem to miss the point in the way the board wants to sail as you've point out in your first paragraph

Comparing the Fox to the Rocket - only sailed the 105 once for 5 minutes,the Rocket of varying sizes I've sailed many times,so my opinion may well be a bit off.

I found the Fox to be a lot,lot faster than the Rocket though that does not mean better.

Upwind better too. The nose of the Rocket seems to sit a lot higher perhaps caused by having more rocker in the nose as well as in the tail.

For slalom sailing the Rocket just feels too user friendly and slow.

Like to have another go of the 105 Fox. Only downside of the Fox,perhaps you do lose a little angle upwind compared to a full on slalom board. Speed is very close. Biggest advantage of the Fox is smoothness.
