My formula sail break one cam and one batten, it is a neil pryde rs racing 9.8 from 2008.
I can't unscrew some cambers because corrosion, i can drill, and maybe try to find out some nuts... but the batten broke very close to the camber, if was in the middle i think was easy to repair... but on the edge, i don't know...
My mast for this sail is a neil pryde 530m 100% carbon and i don't know what kind of curve, if it is CC or CC-FT, plus theres no more constructors using this size, 530m...
Can i use this mast in a new sail (neil pryde or not) that ask 540 luff or 565 luff??
I know the foil is the future, and i already started doing it with the neil pryde pinkie (i know is not the best... but...)
some advises?
If I buy new sail, i wont buy neil pryde, i will buy some brand that use CC masts... os more universal.
Should i wait to fly better on the foil and change it for a better one??

Looks like it's right on the borderline at 14.7 (www.peterman.dk/masts-all-imcs01.htm). I bet it would work well on a really high-aspect modern foil sail, but that Pinkie wouldn't - high aspect sails seem to like high aspect foils also.

If there's a good sailmaker near you one good option is to take an 11-12m formula sail (people are practically giving them away) and have it cut down at the leech. You keep the luff and most of the sail but reduce boom length to 220 or so and wind up with a very powerful high aspect 9.2 or so. Seems expensive until you compare it with the cost of a legit modern foiling race sail.

the pinkie is only to learn how to fly... then i will buy a good carbon foil.

i saw the table of peterman, but what can you say? The mast is a constant curve?

Here in Portugal, formula sails with two three years, cost around 400euros... i dont know here are people giving them away :D

Check for used gear around Tarifa.
Should be half that price.
Pinkie and 7.0 freeride no cam is all you need for 8-15 knot winds. That gets you up easily.

agree with LeeD, do not need a 9.2 to foil, I put my 9.0 away, and use an 8.0 Aerotech freespeed no cambers (overall much lighter rig), gets me up in 7-9 knots with a carbon AFS W95 foil and F1080 wing (86 kg).

That's a 7.0 rigged and TUNED for the wind conditions, not necessarily max down and out.

Front & rear extensions transform the pinkie. Windsurfing Perth had them.

Thanks, but the major question is, should I buy a 11m formula sail, or sell all my formula gear (mast,boom,board, boss fin 73cm) save the money, learn how to foil and then buy a 10m foil sail... and a carbon foil. ?

but, until know how to foil... my biggest sail, at this moment is a 6.3m

If you plan to go hard over into foiling, and give finning the ole heave-ho, yes, do those things.

Having a 6.3 as your max size for learning to foil is not bad. I weigh 200 lb, and rarely use anything bigger than a 6.4 (sometimes a 7.0 on those "light" days). Granted, I need a minimum of 13 kts of wind, but I don't like to **try** foil in less than that anyway. Wishful thinking. I have 7.4 and 8.5, but never use them.

You might find that for foiling, you don't need a 10.0 unless you plan to race.

a 8.0 gets me up in 6-9 knots at 86 kg on an AFS F1080 cm2 wing, going bigger sail (9.0 for me) only adds more weight (heavier sail, longer heavier boom and mast) and more sail drag through the air.

1st What's your weight?
2nd What gear do you have actually?
3st The portion of the batten that broke it's a rod not a tube. You can fix easily.
4th Your mast is good for Foil sails, do not sell it. those years they starting to migrate from CC to CC-FT
5.... If you are lightweight better use shorter softer mast if not use recomended one
6......THE FOIL ISN'T THE FUTURE, they are the present BUT it's another thing. I do Formula and a little of foil because foil is like electric motorcycle....you don't have the same feelings/feedback
7...........The pinkie ISN'T the best (if not the worst ) for learning. After few months of reading I bought one RRD85, the first time I rode (Formula board and 6.3 slalom sail) I was flying after the first 70mt, with my foots on the straps and hooked to the boom. IT'S REALLY EASY
8...............At first I would recommend you to use old equipment because you will crash a lot, but if you have the money go for a new one
9.....................I like A LOT to do Formula too!!!

Yesterday i saw some videos talking about that... but.. this sail maybe have a value of 100euros... i dont know if it worth

And i'm using 100% carbon mast and 100% carbon boom when foiling... because i could fin and could foil.

sould I when foiling use my 30% carbon mast and aluminium boom??

I sail 170 days a year, so 35 of those foil.
Alu boom and 40% carbon mast for all sailing.
I've been sailing 80 days a year for 38 years.

Not that your posts are confusing but, do you sail 80 or 170 days a year ?

This is my 39th year windsurfing, and I have more time.
